iPod Touch 3G
« on: September 29, 2009, 12:21:11 PM »
Anyone else think there was nothing special with this? There was a small speed boost, only 32 and 64 GBs, and the new update(p2p, landscape keyboard, etc.). The only thing worth it might be the extra 32 GB.

I have a 2G 16 GB, and I wanted to upgrade because I ran out of room (I should have bought the 32 GB in the first place :(). I guess I'm going to be stuck without all my music for at least another year. It sucks because for some reason I don't want to even use it if I don't have all my music.

I was hoping for features such as:
- New back casing (I like the ones on the iPhone 3Gs or maybe ones with details/colors)
- Music controls on it, like with volume (Yes, you can just take it out of your pocket and turn the screen on to change things, but it's a little hassle)
- Video and picture camera (But then it might be too much like iPhone, which Apple doesn't want)
- Feature to change icons and such without 3rd party applications.

That sounds about all I need.

You're forgetting the part where you can put it in a blender with diamond cutter fin blades and see if it blends.

Apple seems to have decided that the Nano would benefit from the video capabilities instead. I'm curious to see how it handles it... but having in the past year bought a 120gb Classic and an 8gb 4th gen Nano I don't think I can justify another one. ^^;

Out of all touch screen mp3s... I hate the touch the most. I'd suggest alternatives before going for the iTouch.

If I'm going for a touch screen on a mobile player I will go Cowon or Archos, any others no thanks.

Any particular reason you guys don't like the touch? I was going for the Zune at first, but I decided to get the Touch instead, and I don't regret it.

I like the touch just for how much compatible things there are for it, and how it is generally reliable and doesn't lag unless it is in prolonged use. Only thing is that it isn't quite as durable as I would have liked (scratches too easily even if you never drop it, had mine in my pocket with a few quarters and ended up with like 10 scratches).

But at the same time, I must digress slightly and say that I have come to prefer phones that have music capability over just dedicated music players (saves pocket space and it is just one less thing you need to put up with). Hence, I myself now use my G1 for all music purposes. It works based on Micro SD cards and I have it running on a 8 GB right now, although I do believe it supports 16 as well. Not enough for some more hardcore music listeners, but I have seen people store music in a Youtube profile as a playlist, and then you can just select that in the G1 and listen to it, since the G1 supports pretty much every Youtube feature (both are google after all).

I like the Apple SDK for iPhone/Touch. But yeah, that's all.

Touch 3G is hardly more than a refresh, not a new generation (very disappointing). When it became clear that Apple wasn't going to include a camera, my interest faded quickly. Although, OpenGL ES 2.0 support is nice.

Heck, the 8GB model is identical to the 2G spec. >_<

edit: I suppose it depends on what you use the Touch for. As a music/video player, it's doubtful you would notice a difference between the 2G/3G. As a pocket computer, you would absolutely notice the difference.

One of the women I follow on Twitter is currently in the middle of doing the annual 24 hour comic, and she's chosen to do it all on her ipod touch. I was actually pretty surprised how much detail you can get out of one of them-
