5 Centimeters Per Second
Carnivus:
I saw it too and like you guys I was kinda disappointed....I mean with all the hype around it...The artwork is something to be praised, but the storytelling and plot is quite annoying. The second part,in my opinion,is useless. The first part kinda hooked me,but it all came crashing afterwards.I give it a 5/10.No more than avarage(excepting the graphic. That was cheesy.).

Ya see, that's the funny thing about this movie - it really highlights the whole 'love it or hate it' thing nicely. I don't think I've ever seen anyone think it was just 'alright'; it's either 'absolutely amazing' or 'boring waste of time'. You can count me among the former ;D
kureshii:
While Makoto Shinkai's films do not present anything new (no new themes or insights), I love them solely on aspects of their presentation and presentation. Yes, pretty-HD has a bit to do with that, but I also like the way he presents each story in its own little world.
Takaki and Akari are about as boring as plain as most people get, but through their eyes you see a slice of shared time; again, it's nothing new and nothing interesting, but I'm sure everyone can relate to it a little, and it's just heartwarming/bittersweet that way, I guess.

Only you know, this movie doesn't really have an ending. First two parts were rather enjoyable, but it lacks any kind of closure. Normally, I wouldn't have anything against it - but if we're to treat it as a movie, then I'm going to demand some things. I don't need a happy ending, I don't even need an ending itself - I just want to feel the time I spent watching this movie was worthwhile.
After the movie ends, what exactly did we gain? We have the characters, we see their struggle, and we gain absolutely nothing from it. No deeper insight, nothing.
And if you say someone's too young to understand it - I feel exactly the opposite. If you experienced it all by yourself, then there's even less the movie has to offer. If you were young and sheltered then you'd be the only person that this movie would have something to offer for.
Now, it's not a bad movie per se - as I wrote before it's really pretty, the directing is nice, and it's okay for some entertainment. But there's hundreds of people claiming it's just about the best anime movie ever - and with that I came expecting a piece that's deep, that I can actually gain something from, that has some insight to offer. But there's none of that.

It's not. But, if you didn't approach the movie with the right mindset, I can see how you can think that.
(click to show/hide)The movie was about our love life:
* The first part was about love as a teen and long distance relationships. It's supposed to be sweet and endearing.
* The second part was about unrequited love and loneliness. It's supposed to be sad and nostalgic.
* The last part was about life about a break up and the realization that usually comes in the early twenties: no matter what, life goes and that hurts. It would hurt so much less if the Earth stopped spinning after a break up. Eventually, you'll find someone else and she will find someone else too. And that hurts. Even though you were everything to one another, that will change. And, no, she won't come back. That only happens in movies. While I typically hate that kind of argument, I'll agree with Tatsu here. This anime can only be good if you can relate to each part. If you've not lived through what the anime tells, you'll probably find it boring and pointless. The point is mostly nostalgia, and if it does not bring back any memories or emotions, then it will utterly fail. So, it's unlikely someone under 20 would even grasp it.
Like kureshii said, Takaki and Akari are about as boring as plain as most people get. But, that's the important part.
They are normal. They have nothing special. But, it's their story.
