All the stories really have a big draw, but I think I like the second one best.

Great thing about this movie is it's an hour long movie, an hour and five minutes to be exact.

But it wasn't his fault ... I want to blame her so badly, I have no idea why she has giving in. There are people like that and it somewhat pisses me off, but what can you do about it? Nothing at all ...

There are people who actually have complete devotions and are able to wait for years, some want to just take it to an eternity (which is not possible since death exists, but ... in the afterlife ... ).

@Havoc, I somewhat agree. But we would probably never know.

I'm re-watching this ... again, just came back from work.

Why do people keep coming up with conclusions? Like a tendency to fill in the blanks to make the story suit your mentality.

Perhaps if someone could explain this, I would reconsider watching it. Is that the point? Are you supposed to fill in the blanks and draw conclusions?

As it stands, my impression if this movie is pretty low. Perhaps that is my fault for not thinking outside of what is immediately presented.

if you watch something and then don't think about it, you wasted your life time on it.

every story in a drama anime, any action anime, any comedy anime, and any romance anime, has a story to tell and if you don't see it, stop watching anime, that place isn't for you, we here in this discussion forum, discuss our viewpoints, our feelings, our opinions, about every Anime we watch, this place was made for us and we use it for the reason it was created for, if you have no intention of discussing this anime or any other anime, please refrain from posting anything at all in this forum.

if you however have anything constructive to relay to us, feel free to do so.

:-\ was that your idea of being helpful.

I understood the story just fine by the way, I was merely making an observation. Your statement is incorrect, but I hope your rant made you feel better.

As for posting here, I already have. I have been observing other people's views in an attempt to figure out the solution to my question.

No one is really telling you to re-watch it. It's the story that draws me near and closer. So honestly it's just the way I see it different than you. I can tell you I've experienced these sort of things like a flash.

This is honestly the 5 CM thread so I mean I want to discuss this with whomever wants to ... like Macross Frontier and Fate Series threads.

Is there another anime similar to this? I know Beyond the Clouds was also made by the same creators, but god to hell with THORA's extremely super ugly styling in that movie (tried to watch it this morning, UUURRRGHH puked).

Thank you Tatsujin :) Your response has answered it. Basically people identify with some aspect, drawing from personal experiences, and try to give it all meaning. This, beyond what the story itself conveys, is the attraction. This would explain why I viewed it as such previously posted. I suppose then, that the director intended to play on human emotion to create lasting appeal. Interesting. Again, thank you.

I never implied that I wanted anyone to convince me to watch it again. It was just that burning question. I' am usually one to try and be generous in my ratings.

The graphics are certainly among the best, and honestly the best as of right now for an anime. But putting the graphics on the side, ... the story is the part that really grips me down. They told a story in an hour covering about 11-13 years of both of their lives. They've skipped all the crap, junk and fillers you see in other anime and gave you the points, facts, the main parts and what not. You do have to put few pieces together, but ... I dunno, I just love how they told the story. It's been like two years. I wonder when will their next movie be out ... that one will certainly be another money maker.

I took the story in without trying to identify, but rather to act as an outsider observing these two people interact over the stories. This lack of identification lead to the impression of a somewhat shallow, uncreative, and predictable production. Hell, I half hoped for the 'happy' ending just to see if I was wrong.

So then it was meant to be personal, aside from the story. I'll wait until I'm in a really melancholic mood, then we'll see.

Thanks :)

Ahh well, whatever happened in 5 cm never happened to me, and if my luck persists, it will never happen to me. *shrugs*

Not much philosophical lesson for me to learn here. Carry on.

Just watched this for the first time. As a whole, I wasn't as blown away as I was expecting.

I really enjoyed the first story. Watching his shitty commute was portrayed so well.
The second one I thought was alright.
I wasn't a fan of the last story.

I think this is a great film more for its artistic beauty than the quality of the actual story.

I agree that the first part was the best, though. It was really well done. And I do like the very Japanese way the story in this (and in Beyond the Clouds) was told, it gives it a very artistic feel. Makes rewatching it more rewarding too, since you pick up more of the story than you did the first time.

I really enjoyed this movie, more because it was more his thoughts portreyed which was different.
Artistically it was amazing, but it did drag on a bit.

I watched the 480p version and it had a different translation. The manta that was done by a fan group was so good. I ended up purchasing the international BD and the theater poster and the translated manta which is translated differently. After I read the man a I understood everything that has happened and there were more details and scenes. The story and characters are clear to me. I want to say more but I have one question..

Both stopped texting each other slowly and it dragged between them. Who wrote that text about the 1000 texts? Was it takaki or akari?
