Nyan Koi!
« on: October 04, 2009, 10:44:59 AM »
Plot Summary courtesy of ANN: Junpei Kōsaka is a second-year high school student who despises cats and has an allergy to them. It just so happens that his high school crush is Kaede Mizuno, a girl who adores cats. One day, while walking home from school, Junpei kicks an empty can and unfortunately beans the local neko-jizō-sama (guardian deity of cats). He finds he can now understand what cats are saying, including his family's own ill-tempered cat, Nyamusasu. However, if he does not grant 100 wishes from cats, he will turn into cat himself.

I wasn't particularly looking forward to it, but got the first episode since gg subbed it. And hey, it's pretty good. Good production values(I especially like the character designs), it's funny, the male protagonist doesn't seem to be completely unlikable, and Mizuno is cute. I guess after Kampfer everything would seem like a masterpiece, but I think this one will be worth watching.
Sure, it isn't anything special - but for a light hearted comedy with some romance it's definitely worth a watch.

So the second episode is out - still pretty nice. As expected, another girl comes into the picture, and we're heading full throttle for the harem territory. Second episode was noticeably less polished - but still looking pretty good. And the new girl, while for the most of episode looking... not exactly cute, is voiced by Ryoko Shiraishi, one of my favorite seiyuu, so her voice made up for her character design. She's more or less a standard tsundere, so having looks that discern her from other characters in the same mold is actually a big plus.
The show develops nicely, there's some potential for drama, but I hope they won't make it too heavy - it works best when it's light hearted.

Scanlators adding unintentional hilarity to the material:

It's definitely moving toward harem territory; however, it doesn't seem to be falling into the typical traps.  And I certainly wouldn't worry about it getting serious.

Thank you captain obvious ::) She looks normal in the opening of the first episode already, so that spoiler is kind of unnecessary, don't you think? ;)

The manga's a harem, the anime obviously will be. But I'm really really hoping that the manga goes with the childhood friend rather than the sudden love interest. I mean as cute as Mizuno is, Kana is just that much hotter and more likable.

Ugh, no, seriously, one Toradora is enough for me. Mizuno ftw!

Meh, Toradora pissed me off way too much to consider this blasphemy. But yeah, watch it, it's not bad per se.
Anyway, back on topic:
With the third episode Nyan Koi continues to be one of the more enjoyable series this season. Mrs postman is... interesting, at the very least. Of course I laughed at the "I want to bring people happiness part" as the thing post delivers most often these days are bills, but I'm not jaded enough that it would get in the way of my enjoyment of the show.
It's kind of sad that AIC can do such a good job on this series while mangling horribly Sasameki Koto though...
Oh, and the only ending better then Mizuno ending(and harem ending, obviously) would be wincest ending ;D

Could it be that they have changed the order of some character introductions in the anime? Haven't seen episode three yet...

The final frame of episode 4...anime's greatest single freeze frame.  Hints of twin tailed twincest?  Fuck yes.
