SeventyX7:
I thought the lack of development was more realistic, to be honest. In real life you don't go around talking about your biggest scars, so it made sense for them all to stay away from the deeper stuff.
Then again, that begs the question, "Why did we make this into an anime if nothing was going to happen?" ;)

Oh, that's certainly true - but the way it was handled didn't make it seem like it was intentional. The writing and pacing were clumsy at best, and there was nothing realistic about the characters themselves. I wonder if the backstory was in the novels as well, and more importantly, whether it was introduced in the same way.
You know, if the characters didn't have any genre awareness I'd like it more(as just another harem anime) - but they do, and yet they act out the common stereotypes by the book. For a bit I thought that they would acknowledge playing along with the tropes, in some kind of double subversion, but that was not the case. Well, at least so far it was not. There is potential there to do something clever, something else then usual, but it's mostly wasted. And wasted potential is something I hate much more then being plainly bad.

If there's more character development and the main character ACTUALLY MAKES A CHOICE.
