Network Surveillance Program
« on: October 04, 2009, 12:00:10 PM »
So, I'm sitting here on a Virtual Private Network in a dorm with no administrative access to the rather unstable local network. I was thinking about getting a program that makes it easy to monitor access to my PC through various running processes. The main criterias are that it should be light-weight and functional ("does the job"). I also prefer open source and free programs, but I wouldn't mind checking out some buy-to-use program if it's really a good one.

Note that I'm not after something that monitors and limits network speeds, like NetLimiter. I am thinking about something along the lines of X-NetStat, to give you a picture. X-NetStat hasn't been updated the last year and half though, so I'm not too sure about that one. I could search for some myself, but I just haven't used any program of the sort before.

I'm hoping that someone here has any experience with this stuff.

Aha.

Wireshark was "recommended" (read: he's using it himself) by a friend of mine too, but he said the UI seemed better in the one I linked at start. Not too sure. Perhaps I'll seem more pro if I use wireshark. Better than going "netstat.exe" at least. ^.-
