Well, Phoronix did some benchmarks recently, but for reasons pointed out by the /.ers, they really aren't that useful.  Making good benchmarks is actually incredibly hard; this one is decent, although a bit old.

I use ext3 (and now ext4) for all my normal partitions, and XFS for my LVM.  I've been satisfied with the performance, although one thing to keep in mind is that XFS partitions cannot be shrunk, only grown.
