People who surprised you when they said they were into anime
« on: October 08, 2009, 04:29:22 AM »
The amount of people who watch anime has been growing faster in recent years. However, there have been certain people that you just didn't expect to watch anime. Who were they and why didn't you expect them to be into anime?
Freshman year in college I got a new roommate halfway through the year. He just transferred from West Point Military Academy because he had a stroke and no longer qualified to be in the military. After a while I found him watching Initial D and struck up a conversation about what else he watched. Weird, accurate with an M16 to 300 yards, tunes his mustang gt when he gets back home, and watches anime when he's bored xD.

Only person to ever surprise me that he watched anime was my computer illiterate friend, and the reason he surprised me was he was not only able to get it himself, he setup everything to watch it himself. If he wasn't so computer illiterate I don't think I would of been surprised though hehe.

If I'd known him through a more social situation and not through living with him my old flatmate would have. He's a huge social person and always out, but there were always those times I'd come in and find him watching anime, or playing Okami, or WOW.

I don't know why but huge social bugs don't surprise me when they are into anime, though a body builder probably would since I have yet to ever meet or hear about a body builder into anime.

Don't really know any one else that likes anime that I haven't pulled them into it however one thing that did surprise me was that my best friend, imagine a big guy (not oversized but big none the less), telling me that he wanted me to download him Cardcaptor Sakura because it was one of his favourite shows. When I showed him the quality to show him what he was getting... he melted as soon as the OP started. It was like he was in his own little dream land. I had never seen him stare at a screen so intensely. :P

I'm not skinny, but I'm pretty tall for my race. (6 cm above average adult Koreans)

Ok I think I was overweight since May this year...  :'( (180lb~190lb) I'll do my best to trim myself to satisfy your expectations.  ;D

^^
Is that thread the 'dude with katana' thread?

12 cm?

This sounds so wrong. Whether it was intentional or not is unclear since it comes from you.

@Borror0
xD
@Enzeddder
That is hilarious :).
With a little help from a great teacher named Onizuka I managed to bring my wrestler/meathead roommate to the animated side. Never expected him to be into anime because he was about as blue collar as they come. At college 80% of my guy friends were into anime and there was a sizable file sharing ring (until the university confiscated the host's hard drives and threatened to cancel his financial aid, good thing we had a backup :D). When one of my meathead friends watched Ippo he started boxing and later began to compete in some small time MMA bouts.
I haven't had many chances to convert people since most of the people I know already have been watching anime for a while. I got converted back in junior year of high school with Naruto. 6 years of watching anime, think of all the more productive things I could have done xD.

180cm sounds more like it lol

Why's it so wrong to try to trim myself?  ???

For some reason people usually are surprised that I watch anime, they have created some strange idea/image about me.
I have met people who watch anime for all the wrong reasons(like its popular I want to be popular and so on), but not people who surprised me when I discovered that they watch anime.

I've dragged countless people into the anime scene. Though I keep most non-friendly titles from people. Not too many people would see me the same if I showed up talking about Elfen Lied.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.
