Well it was pretty stupid, I work at a pizza place and my boss actually made us stop working. He was running around while the rest of us just sat there and ate pizza while "not getting hurt"?

I could just imagine the the conversation that happened if someone forced the network down...
A: Why did you bring the 911 network down? B: Well I needed to go to the emergency room and wanted to shorten my wait.

Well at least you got some free hours at work so to say.

That's like 45 minutes of falling down stairs, or 45 minutes choking on ramen.. without help. But hey, it could happen. D:

One day, 911 will vanish. And then, 987 will appear.

let's be honest here, this is tragic to the police TV shows across the nation.  They missed a chance for a disstressed individual to call so that they could show an old recording reel in the background with fuzzy audio.  I mean come on, what is court tv going to do without those 45 minutes of recordings?  This is a disaseter!  We are missing bad reinactments with D list actors here people!!!

Well seriously though, what would be going through your head if you were in a life/death situation lucky enough to get a hold of a phone, then came to find out calling 911 didn't work.

I have a feeling the media is going to hit Cincinnati Bell pretty hard for this, or some idiots going to try and sue them for risking their life by denying access to a general emergency service.

I'd think Bomb Threat, or sudden Narcolepsy.  You know, it would be sorta funny if this was caused by construnction or something like that down the street.

No, the policy just doesn't wanna admit it. They were playing PS3 game, Uncharted 2 on big screen HDTV and someone tripped over the power plug on their phoneline when he went to the bathroom. How did they put it back in? Well, the ... uh, no idea.  :D

Actually, the 45 minutes was used to make sure their save file wasn't corrupted. After they established that good news, they all returned to work.

Come to think about it, I do recall waking up that morning having to reset all of my clocks... Maybe they got bored and kicked the power off, then decided to combo hit taking down the phone lines just for laughs.  ;D

wtf? How hard is it to put a car in neutral. My brakes froze once in my car and I did just that. People need to learn how to use their vehicles. Acceleration in neutral with the accel down like that would probably just give you shit high RPMs and maybe blow your engine, but seriously. A better alternative than what happened.

the only problem with that is that that particular car is completely drive by wire... there's no key, a button for ignition... and it goes forward, backward, or stopped...

This guy was a cop, and when he came to terminal velocity, to turn a phrase, his tires were apparently already on fire from the heat of the brakes...

He had no idea about the standard operation of the vehicle, because this was a rental...

I actually had that experience once, scary as hell.  My accelerator got caught under the floormat,  I managed to hook my toe under the pedal and unstick it before running into anything but only after realizing the brakes weren't going to stop me.  The only other solutions were to turn the engine off or stick it in neutral and let the engine go crazy (I'm not sure if there was a rev limiter on that truck)

A completely drive-by-wire car should have a failsafe:  "If throttle is wide open and brakes are on full for more than 10 seconds then close throttle to idle and shift to neutral".

You know, that would explain why the Prius I rented in June had no floor mats.
