oh hey, 911?

Umm... standard operation of cars... ALL cars recently made and especially luxury cars should have automatic gear shifter. Which means you can easily pop from reverse into neutral, and neutral into drive, or drive to neutral without having to push the release lock button or w/e. But you can't go from neutral to reverse (because that causes the engine to stall if you're moving forward)

Unless neutral was jammed for whatever reason... which I doubt.

I won't lie, I listened to the audio before reading the article and it took me about half the clip to realize what was going on. I agree with SE, the 911 responder should have been more helpful...

Victim: "Were traveling on 125, my accelerator is stuck"
Responder: "What?"

But that really gave me the chills, I cant imagine how that responder was feeling at the time so I guess he has an excuse.

Wtf? Bullshitting her story to make toyota take more blame? Wtf is this?

In all honesty, there should be a way for you to figure out how to deal with this especially if you had around 40 seconds and with people in the car. 10 seconds or less? Ok, I can understand. But you know what's going on, you realize the accel is stuck. Dammit, you jam the car in neutral. Don't know that? Pull at the mat. Or get someone to pull at it for you. Slide you foot under the accel. There's so much you can do. Why can't people think for once instead of having to have people tell them things?

I bet this recall mainly deals with drivers who use automatic because manual drivers at least have the sense of what to do. I can think of several ways to deal with this.

My brakes froze last winter and I still found a way to stop... on ice. Well... I drove an infinity which the past owner compromised the brake fluid with water somehow... that's why.

I also own one of the recalled cars in question... but even if it happened to me. I would have figured out immediately what to do.

The 911 responder could have been more helpful, but the guy on the other line wasn't very helpful himself.
2 reasons

#1. Calm as hell, very quiet. No sense of panic, no idea what is going on.
#2. Saying stuff like "we're on 125 going 120" makes no sense at all. HIGHWAY, MPH, ROAD, CANNOT STOP are better key words. "Accelph stuck". Not a very useful phrase.

True, but wasn't the guy on the other line a cop? Its a known fact by them in their professions that staying calm gets things done more quickly.

..Of course this obviously proves that theory wrong.
