The results are 4 years old and hence should be carefully analysed with the right assumptions, but I would be very disappointed if the Pentium E5300 ends up pulling more current on the 3.3V and 5V lines than a Northwood P4 (LOL!)

IIRC from most of the articles I've been reading, on most systems built in the past 4 years or so, most of the power draw would be on the 12V rail.

You know what, I am really confused reading that chart from SPCR, because especially CPUs must use lower voltages because of very small (XYnm in this case) transistor/capasitor/resistor etc sizes, otherwise it would cause current leak and arcs inside the cpu, really 12V as the main drain ???... But I will accept these statistics :)

[edit] http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/366/2 => up-to-date info about CPU voltages
[edit2] crap, I forgot, may be they are using a zener diode for voltage regulation and use the 12V line

But don't be surprised if you end up buying 300W psu :D

The noise level of the cooling system??

The motherboard has its own power regulation system which delivers power to the CPU (from the 24-pin cable); I suppose that's where the voltage gets adjusted to CPU-appropriate voltages.

The current family desktop is running off a really old 250W PSU... xD

If it blows, I'll be sure to skip the picoPSU ;)

Sources I can find all quote the Scythe Big Shuriken at 12.91~28.89dBA, although without knowing how this is measured the numbers don't say much. But reviews and opinions say it is quiet, so I'll take them for their word.

Variable speed fan I guess, very nice.

Now I have enough info to build my own media power house, I will just need to find similar pieces in my country :)

Thanks a lot  :D

Wait a minute! What case are you planning to use Kureshii??  ::)

In a pinch the M350 enclosure should do, although I'm planning on trying my hand at an aluminium-and-acrylic custom build :)

Any CAD modelling will have to wait until my final-year project is done though, since that's eating up most of my time right now.

(btw, the NAS project hasn't really been cancelled, I just upgraded it to a home server build :P It'll also be a custom-build, but that's another story for another day...)

ohh, that case is great, perfect thermal design, heat dissipation. It won't visible anyway.
I will start building this when I return from my business trip, which means 2+ months. May be I will be able purchase a higher capacity 2.5" hdd (640gb??)

Good luck in your final-year project, my best wishes :)

We hardly cancel a project  :P , we just upgrade it   ;)
