President Obama wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize is really the 'Who is in a Position to Aid the Norwegian Government Most by Winning' Prize. The winners have always been politically motivated.

Surely there is some of that, the reason its the Norwegian parliament who is responsible for the prize is that the Norwegian parliament at the time of Nobel had nothing to do with foreign policy. Norways foreign policy was decided by Sweden, now that is no longer the case. So the prize has become more of a political tool.

So Muhammad Yunus from Bangladesh (2006) and Wangari Muta Maathai from fucking Kenya (2004) were in a position to aid the Norwegian government?
Anyway, Norway is to blame for this one. You should have read the Norwegian newspapers today. There is a hysteria going on here with dozens of articles including phrases like "bad joke", "embarrassment for Norway", "big mistake", etc...
Basically the opinion of common Norwegians is that he is not worthy candidate.
But then again look at it from another perspective: who are the other candidates? Random dissidents who were in some demonstrations and then spent half of their life in a prison, but still not really making any impact other then a publicity stunt. So yeah Obama can make impact in nine months.... hell in one day with a handshake more then a dissident for their entire life.

What about it? Are you suggesting if we packed up and left today, leaving the country in chaos, instead of assisting with rebuilding they'd be better off? Still not following your logic. Also not following how this responsibility disqualifies him.
Don't get me wrong. I want us out of Iraq yesterday, I was just talking about it in another thread with viscous, but assuming Obama can just say "Hey, were done here. Let's go home." isn't just naive, it's ignorant.

Hey, no one knows pointless conflict better than america..
Giving the area some element of stability/ nation building/ aide and reducing the drug traffic flow would be an ENORMOUS benefit to the people inevitably. It's essentially become an entire country that's been spoon fed propaganda and illegitimate opportunity structures by the insurgency.
But we could be there 100 years and I still don't think it would be enough.
So I think what it comes down to is ceasing needless conflict, utilizing proper intelligence/espionage, and most of all getting ourselves off this fucked up war based economy we've had for GAWD knows how long.
Retraining the workforce, and educating the American social model.
But the american people are no war mongers, if anything just hate them because they've refused to budge emotionally and economically out of fear and listless/laziness since McCarthyism.
Plus all the nonsense they've been fed for SOOO many years by interest funded politicians , and the educational gap between the educated and working class.
I can tell you America is changing, granted slowly enough that we probably wont matter as much by the time we start to get things right. But its a start
