I think Larry Flynt would have been a better candidate.
He is a strong proponent of free speech, and has sacrificed his own mobility for his ideals. With the proliferation of hardcore porn that he has pushed for - he has helped world peace, and the global warming & overpopulation issues --- by promoting sex & masturbation for pleasure, rather than reproduction.
He is a forward thinking genius, who has done great things for the world.
Technically - he's done a FUCKLOAD more than Obama. ( literally ).
Obama's done jack shit. He's accomplished nothing - other than riling & dividing the nation. He's appointed pedophile enablers to be in charge of "safety in schools". ( Kevin Jennings ) He's appointed people who advocate sterilization - rather than behavior changes. ( John Holdren ) He's appointed people who say - walk up to hardened, armed criminals and try to strike up a conversation - instead of drawing your gun - and telling him get on the ground. ( Van Jones ) The guy's a nothing. He's stupid - he has no idea what he's doing - and he has so many advisers telling him what to do for just that reason.
[ BTW - for Larry Flynt being an "unsung hero" - I am VERY serious, not being sarcastic. I do respect this man, despite his industry, for what he has done for free speech and peoples rights. If he had not been involved with pornography - he would be a damn hero to all. It's just an unfortunate thing ... due to what he is proliferating ... he's vilified. His ideals are good, his business is a bit ... well, not that good. ;) ]

I watched the indian prime minster on television last night and he explained that he believed obama was given the medal to ratify the direction america was taking. Almost as a way of telling the American people that the world didn't WANT to hate them, that infact it was understood that the direction the country had taken for the past 8 years wasn't entirely the peoples fault individually or collectively.
That just a few bad apples spoiled the bunch.
It was an effort to encourage america to continue its work tward better foreign relations and human rights activism.
I understand he hasn't done MUCH, but he is an intelligent, ambitious man.
It was just as much to encourage him to push forward as to reward.
It was a tool. Not a medal.
