Can't See Peers
« on: October 11, 2009, 11:18:57 PM »
I opened up my bittorent client [uTorrent] a few minutes ago, so I can download a torrent from BakaBT. However, the client chows no peers, and a red "error" arrown next to the torrent name. Is the tracker down again, or is this another problem?

Nope tracker isn't down.  I'm seeding fine.  Resort to User Error...

Does the Torrent have seeds, and are you logged in?
I have typed these words and you have been forced to read them.  Now you can go cry in the corner if you like :)

Yes, I am logged in. The torrent I am trying to download is this: http://bakabt.me/torrent/146741/Eureka_Seven_Pocketful_of_Rainbows_%282009%29.html

I'll try downloading another torrent from another site to see where the problem is.

EDIT: Okay, I tried downloading a torrent from Isohunt. My client recognizes the peers, but isn't downloading from them, and is recognizing significantly less than the website is reporting.

Have you checked your port forwarding...? utorrent comes with a link to test it.  I have had to reset mine before.

Edit -

What is the status of the torrent you are trying to download?  Does it say something along the lines of  "No connection could be made because of......"

I had that problem with FLCL a little while ago.  I ended up just waiting 2 or 3 days and tried again, then it worked.

I was able to download a torrent from BakaBT about 2 days ago when I was on another router, but now that I'm back home at my normal router, it doesn't work. I didn't get any error messages from the torrents; just a red arrow.

click on the torrent then on the bottom screen go over to tracker there you should see something along thse lines

[DHT]
[Local Peer Discovery]
[Peer Exchange]
Code: [Select]
http://tracker.bakabt.com

The status should all say not allowed and then the one for bakabt should be different.  What does that one say?

It says "Not Allowed" for all 3 of them, and for the fourth [last] one, it says "Scraping" for a while, then says "Offline- Timed Out". I'm worried my ISP is starting to throttle my downloading; it seems I can only download under 60 kbps now.  :'(

Does the one for Bakabt also say not allowed????

Could be your ISP, you can call and comfirm.

Did you check your PORTS? Sometimes switching roughters can mess them up.

No, only the ones you said would be listed as "Not Allowed" are as such. I tried forwarding the port, but I get the same problem.

Your ISP may be blocking Torrent Traffic to the Tracker...  Try using the TOR Anonymity network as a proxy but just resolve host names through The proxy... TOR is a lot slower than clear network so if you try to send the data across, it will go a lot slower than necessary, plus, it's considered very bad form.

the benefit to TOR is that it is an end to end encrypted low latency network... which means that your ISP will find it nearly impossible to see what traffic is being passed inside the TOR network.

I was able to download some torrents, but some torrents just won't download. Now I can see the peers, but it says that none are active, which is definitely not true, because the torrent and I am now downloading is new. The torrent is Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!!. All my other torrents are downloading just fine, but not this one. What could be the problem? I've tried restarting my router and torrent client, with no luck.
