external HD question

Oh, that stuff. Yeah, it had some kind of folder that assigned it a certain icon in My Computer. Other than that I don't think I remember it doing much. You don't need any of the software on it to actually use it, and in fact even the icon change can be taken care of by just reformatting it (to NTFS, for instance). All of the "bloatware" that comes with it is already in it, and it's up to you to install/use it. You don't need to. Word of caution though: in case you want to KEEP the stuff that comes with it (the programs), like I did (I just wanted to make a backup of them while I reformatted, in case I wanted to play around with them later), don't put it directly in any of your system drives. I made that mistake and my C: drive now has a Samsung icon. >_>;
... Not that I mind, particularly. It actually looks pretty good. I'm sure if I looked it up somewhere, I could change it back fairly easily, but I'm just leaving it alone for now.
Edit: In other words, it's plug and play...

I've had all sorts of disks fail on me from all manufacturers...
Currently I just had a WD disk got kicked from my RAID array twice on read fail around the same portion of the disk... Not the same sector...
foreboding complete failure... it's still working somewhat but trustable? I don't know. I think the warranty's out on this disk so I'm SOL I suppose.
Will I stop buying disks from WD?
I'll still buy disks from WD.

Seeing both Seagate hdd's fail (ones made before the maxtor purchase) Im sticking with hitach & WD.
Just lost 450gb worth of data this week from the seagates, so I have two free externals but theyre IDE (NexStar, and some... hairline hdd with a fan)
Saying that whats max GB from a IDE hdd?

You'd spend less on a 1.5TB SATA drive and separate enclosure than you would on just a 750GB IDE drive.
