I'm posting in this thread because I thought I saw "neo geo" in the subject and I was all like "what the hey?? samurai showdown? what's going on here.."
But then I realized it wasn't "geo", but "genesis" that I saw... So
then I pictured Sega Genesis in my head and was all like "waaat??", while at the same time reading "..evangelion.." and involuntarily picturing a 16-bit Evangelion port on the Sega Genesis. By this point my brain is thinking "HOLY SHIT..
I wonder if that exists.."
So I shook my head and re-read the subject header. Ok.. why is evangelion considered to be the best anime? Hmmz.. If I had to sum it up, I'd say it has something close to the "Akira" factor. Aside from what actually makes it enjoyable to watch, it's a combination of mass popularity and personal nostalgia that has a lot to do with why it's canon to many otaku that NGE is "the best", or at least "one of the best". Out of the two, I think personal nostalgia plays more of a part. I'm talking about people who've formed a special bond with the series because it was the first (or one of the first) anime they were introduced to.
Oh, man.. I just remembered I never finishing watching Evangelion... I didn't watch the last four episodes... God dammit. I'm gonna have to marathon that show one of these days now. >____>;;
Anyways, that's why I think it's
considered to be the best, or at least one of the best. What actually
makes it a good show? I think it has a lot to do with huge-ass Evas fucking shit up. That was one of it's main draws for me, at least. ^___^;;
That being said, here's a 16-bit Asuka slide-show that was made for the SNES O___o (couldn't find anything for the Sega Genesis):
