I haven't finished it yet, but I got to the piano playing scene and I actually had to skip ahead.  I loved every Evangelion up to rebuild 2.0, and now this.  /cry

Oh gawd, the middle part of the movie just was like... how the fuck does this fit into the story? Where is the symbolism? I'm like scrambling through my head of the bible stories and then I had an epiphany.

(click to show/hide)It's all bullshit!

barcibus:
Evangelion 3.0 is a disaster.

It lost its emotional appeal because visual effects and plot have trumped characters.  In other words, the plot only makes sense if the characters act in stupid or irrational ways, which makes them less realistic, which makes us not care about them.
And that's what used to make Evangelion so good: it was a great character-driven story.

Imagine that you announced to the entire public that you were going to make 4 movies, but you realized after making the second one that you need 5 movies to explain the plot. The overall story has already been made, finalized, etc, but there's just not enough time in the remainder of the screen time to fit in 5 movies, so you are forced to choose what to keep and what to throw.

Anno thought, "Shit this sucks. But between two choices: PURE plot, and no Ikari Shinji (the one in the preview for 3.33) OR a HUGE GAPING FUCKING HOLE in the plot, and full Ikari Shinji and Kaworu (actual 3.33), then I'd choose the latter. The second one has more emotional impact, and why not make the last movie wrap up everything properly? Maybe we can even expect the audience to fill in some details of what happened in the 14 years."

That, or, "TROLOLOLOLOLOL. Bitches. TAKE THAT MINDFUCK MEDLEY. Revenge for the budget cuts in the first one. That's what you fuckers get. "

We'll never know.

Alright, now I am really getting confused. What's the difference between movies 1.0 and 1.11, 2.0 and 2.22, 3.0 and 3.33.

flimsypeanut:
a.0 is the movie version to be shown in movie theaters, a.aa is the DVD/Blu-Ray version to be sold and has some slight changes in the scenes (too slight to be significant).

a is 1,2,3.
