External  WESTERN DIGITAL My Book Essential 3.0 1000GB, USB2.0, 16MB cache, 7200ot, WDBAAF0010HBK-EESN or  internal WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Black 1000GB, SATA II, 32MB cache, 7200ot, PMR, 8.9ms, WD1001FALS

it depends on what you want. the better drive is the WD Black (the drives build into the My Book Essential series are WD Greens), but if you want a external drive the My Book Series is imo a solid choice.

as i said, it depends on what you want to use it for. greens(5400 rpm - most get that number wrong, but greens actually do run at that speed) are considerably slower than blacks. that has its benefits too, they are quieter, take less power and are cheaper.
the speed won't really matter if you are using the drive only to archive files and access one of them every few hours - in that case a 1.5tb green you can get for the price of a 1tb black would definitely be the way to go.
