IT'S LIKE SOMEONE TOOK EVERYTHING BAD ABOUT ANIME AND ROLLED IT IN ONE
Seriously, where do I even start?
Let's take Alexander - holy shit I've never seen a protagonist that looked so much like a fantasy avatar of a 13 year old DeviantArt user.
Scythe? Check.
Cool scars? Check.
Silver hair? Check.
Heterochromia? Check.
Sleeveless hoodie? Check.
Tragic hero? Check.
Rebel attitude? Check.
And the list goes on... Damn.
Now, the show itself - uses a generous heaping of tired anime cliches, with strong emphasis on two things. First, taking a western religion and twisting it beyond recognition - Hellsing was like a documentary compared to this. Second, plot induced fanservice: Breast milk-fueled superpowers. Do I even have to say any more? Of course there's more than enough of random, incidental fanservice as well.
This whole show is pretty much constructed of a bunch of tropes. And while that in itself isn't bad(see Mahou Sensei Negima manga for proof), this one lacks the spark and wit to hold it together, it only redeeming quality being the absurdity of the whole experience.
Of course that means I enjoyed it tremendously. A little less then I would if I hasn't seen few similarly over the top parodies, though. But this one has an added bonus, while something like Needless makes it obvious that it's a parody, this one is disguised just enough that a some people are probably going to treat it seriously.
It's probably the best show to use if you want to make a normal person hate anime.
Oh, and I really liked the voice cast - Mio bullying Yui was pretty awesome. And, worryingly, Chihara Minori in her Nagato voice - it takes all of my willpower not to watch the Disappearance camrip, and this is not gonna help.
