Anime can't make me laugh

 ??? I have just noticed, over the years I've seen X amount of anime productions, and throughout every single one, when a scene, line, or series is identified as "hilarious" I never remember laughing. God forbid an anime push comedy as it's defining feature, I will be bored 100% guaranteed.

I have a sense of humor damnit! stand-up comedy is my favorite form of entertainment, beyond music, movies, anime, reading, anything. I love reading funny books and seeing funny movies and like making my friends laugh.

Whats so different in comedy anime? It seems to just fall flat on me (oh, i GET it). Is it just a sign of different cultures? I remember in high school people quoting animes and guffawing their pants off, and there I sat with a blank face.

Anyone share my feelings? Or have an explanation? Or even find comedy animes funnier than the local flavor?

Well, I sort of share your feelings. I no longer laugh at anime. I used to, years back. I guess after so much anime, I've seen it all. I can tell you the ones I laughed out loud to: Azumanga Daioh and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu. If these don't make you laugh....it's the end.

Desensitized. Seriously. You might want to consider stopping anime and coming back after a hiatus.
* fohfoh is on an Asian drama hiatus, will be on an anime spree probably in November or December when there is more time.

The only thing that makes me laugh now is. Chaos. Hell breaking loose, everyone watching their back kind of anime. Sadly they are hard to find (=3=).

If you seriously can't find at least one anime out there that will make you laugh your soul has already left your body, and it's too late. I'm sorry. :(

I think that only Azumanga Daioh made me laugh a lot.

Other animes tagged as "comedy", such as Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Hayate no Gotoku, only made laugh occasionally (probably because i didn't get all the references).

You're probably just watching the wrong kind of genres for the emotional reaction you're trying to elicit.

Edit: I don't know about alot of people but I thought nodame cantabile was absolutely hilarious.

Could be a number of things.Culture differences,not your style of humor etc.
Id suggest not watching any comedy anime for a while,then one day in a few
months download a couple at random and see what happens.
It just might not be you style of humor thats all.

+1, Welcome to the NHK is pure awesomeness and a must watch anyway in my opinion.
You might also wanna check out Gintama, cause it's probably the anime that made me laugh the most.

Well, its partly true for me too. When labeled as a comedy anime (the very main genre), very few are actually consistently funny. I usually laugh/smile more when it's in the background and subtle.

Still, there are quite a number of animes with comedy as a main element that I found funny; like Nodame Cantabile, School Rumble, GTO, FMP Fumoffu, Yakitate!! Japan, Detroit Metal City. Even Golden Boy, NHK ni Youkoso!, Rocket Girls, Bamboo Blade (and for some reason I even thought Bokura ga Ita was funny!).

Though the number of animes, with comedy as a major component, that I don't like are many more. Maybe because all ecchianimes are actually comedies, and I dislike them :P.
