The cost of internet.

<< < (5/20) > >>

Mcgreag:
Monthly Fee: $49
Bandwidth: 100/100
Country: Sweden
Service Provider: Bahnhof provided through the municipal fiber net.

Bahnhof is a very nice ISP, not only do they provide a good connection but they also don't censor or filter anything and they work actively to conserve your integrity by for example not keeping any more logs than absolutely necessary.

Mag-X:
Monthly Fee: $115 for internet and HDTV service + DVR rental. Internet by itself is about $70.
Bandwidth: 25Mbit down/15Mbit up.
Country: United States (Portland, OR)
Service Provider: Verizon
Package: I don't know if it has a special name. It's just the 25/15 FiOS pacakge.

I'm still getting screwed compared to Japan/South Korea and Scandinavian standards, but it's a zillion times better than what most of America has.

bloody000:
39.95CAD
3M/1M
Telus

Telus doesn't track my traffic(at least not for now), but speed is not great. What's worse is that my phone line can only sync to around 3.8~4.0M, so no 6M for me. THAT REALLY SUCKS.

BuriaL:
Monthly Fee: 449 NOK / $80 with the current weak dollar.
Bandwidth: 10Mbit / 10Mbit
Country: Norway
Service Provider: Lyse
Package: None, Alltho with the digital tv(separate cost), it would be "Family Pack" if i had a phone line.

Best connection ive ever had. Never had a problem, never been disconnected.
If it were a bit cheaper i would go for higher bandwidth tho :P

TorturdChaos:
Monthly Fee: ~ $115, but that is for Cable TV, Phone & Internet Service.
Bandwidth: 8Mbit d/l.  ~ 512Kbit u/l - No bandwidth caps.
Country: US (Montana)
Service Provider: Bresnan
Package: Standard Triple Play package.

Most of the time I get the advertised speeds, even during peak hours only drops off a bit.  I have seen d/l speeds as high as 1.4 MB/s - even tho its supposed to max out at 1 MB/s.

I was very happy when Bresnan came to town and started offering Phone & Internet along with cable TV.  For the longest time CenturyTel has pretty much had a monopoly on our valley's internet service & phone service.  And due to lack of compitition they were offering very poor service.
Now with Bresnan here CenturyTel has had to start offering better service & better packages to compete.
Although as long as I have the choice I will never go back to CenturyTel. Since they were the only one it town for so long they had this 'you have to use us' attitude.

Sadly, for about the last 3 weeks my internet has been very slow during peak times.  When I called Bresnan tech support they said they are experience a 'partial outage' for my area >_<.  But the tech said the ticket didn't say anything more than that.  I really hope they get it fixed soon.  Getting really tired of getting d/c'd from WoW.
