ACT Test. Is it really worth it?
« on: October 24, 2009, 03:16:31 AM »
For those of you who know what this test is, have you taken it, if so, what did you score, and do you really think it was worth it?

I'm scheduled to take it tomorrow morning for the second time. [ETA 7hr. 45minutes until test start]... yet here I sit.
Not looking forward to 5 hours of straight testing, but I think something to read after it would be nice.

Score - 34
Worth it for any abstract reason like personal development, not really.
Worth it for getting into a college, then yeah.

It'll help out a lot for getting into college. I forget if my school required you to have taken it or not.

Well pretty much all top ranked schools require either the SAT or ACT.

My SAT was 2310 , and ACT was 32 (crap...i know). Pick which one you like better and go with that, but if you are graduating in 2010, then you are seriously running out of time.

isn't like 21 the average for ACT or something like that?

(I got an 18... mainly cause I was bored and have little to motivation when I have to sit and work on something uninteresting for a long time)

TEST OVER!

My day: | 8am - 1pm: Test | 2pm - 4:53pm: Sleep | 5pm - 1am: Work |

So uh my day sucked. Basically the test itself was super easy, the only problem I faced was time management. Giving 30 minutes for [5 page long informational stories and 40 questions over them] seems like too small of an amount of time to work out beneficially. They say not answering a question is worse than guessing because of the points earned for trying, so the trick is just skipping the ones you dont know to meet the time requirements, then guessing on the ones you didnt know in the last 5 remaining minutes.

I hope i score higher this time.. :3

That was my problem too, I think I only finished 1 section the first time I took it.  timed tests are my antithesis

Lol, you are right there, I myself think they give too little time. While they don't "give you points for trying" there is no negative penalty so the ones you guessed might be right

And I say 32 is low simply because it won't be too great for a lot of the top ranked schools...

Beyond 30 it doesn't really matter.  Your class rank, application essays, and entrance interviews matter a hell of a lot more.

The ACT is prefered by a few states.  I know a couple of the Southern US states prefer it, I remember taking it back in High School, but I don't remember my score.  It didn't matter because I was just taking that to get into fall back state schools.

I took the SAT to get into the 3 schools I really wanted.  I posted a 1300 when the max was 1600.  Not bad if I do say so.  Especailly since I decided to stop answering questions both times I took it because I got bored.  Oh well I got into the school I wanted to get into, and that's all that matters.

I was considering taking the ACT when I was in high school, but when I found out I got a 1430 on my SAT I figured I didn't need it.

I know I had to sign up for the ACT outside of classes on my own and schedule a weekend date to take the test, but how are the SAT's organized? I haven't even heard anything about taking them.  ???

Ahhhh, I see. Here (in Argentina) they are simply called "entrance exams". LOL :)

Haha we have entry exams here too. I'm still trying to figure out the importance of these tests though.. They say you NEED them in order for colleges to accept you, but I'm already in college... I think it doesn't matter because I'm still under age. ):
