Cencoroll
« on: October 30, 2009, 12:05:09 PM »

Plot Summary courtesy of ANN : A huge monster shows up on the top of a building of an ordinary city, prompting the Defense Forces to go into action and causing the citizens of the city to start an uproar. Yuki, a brave-hearted and naturally inquisitive girl, happens to know a secret. Her friend Tetsu has been keeping and raising a strange creature called Cenco. Instantly becoming fascinated by Tetsu and his pet, a mysterious boy appears with control over the huge monster threatening the town. With that, an unexpected battle begins.
Koharubi released LQ version already, anyone see it yet? I was really anticipating it, don't know if I'll be able to wait for HQ release ;D

In the comments on their blog, they say that they will release tomorrow another version. If not, I try to wait nonetheless^^

Somebody edited Koharubi's release. It would seem to be slighty better... apparently with a smaller size..

Just finished watching it. I was very impressed considering how short it was. It would make for one hell of a great full-length movie.

Sounds interesting. I'll go download it tomorrow or tonight. So far from what everyone is saying. It seems good.

This is pretty good! (If you can look past the low-budget animation quality)

Feels like Narutaru, but with some interesting story aspects (won't spoil much here; just watch it). One thing I liked about it is that it's got a really good seinen mood going on; the characters maybe be in uniforms but it certainly doesn't feel very much like high school anime. There's a very jaded (not emo) tone to it; you're not going to get the usual clichéd anime-character responses here. And speaking of the script and story mechanics, they've done more things in one pilot ep than most anime series do in 2 or 3 seasons.

If I have to summarise that, I'd probably say it feels like a new generation of animators and scriptwriters have taken the helm. Speaking optimistically, we might finally see a shift in the direction of anime, if AIT decides to expand it to a full-length series.

I completely agree. That was a very "full" 25 minutes. I'd love to see a series made out of this. Or a movie. And more supercell music too!

Is this a pilot episode to test if it's popular? Did you watch Koharubi's or did you watch it raw, kureshii?

I saw the edited version which was on Nyaatorrents. LQ wasn't as LQ as I thought it was, very good quality for a 112mb file. As for the show, interesting.

Okay, so this needs to get turned into a full length series/movie now.

I watched Koharubi's LQ. Video quality is significantly degraded from the usual HQ fansubs I'm used to, but it's decent enough, I guess. At least it's not as bad as eyecancerish Crunchyroll webstreams...

Loved the art style and it definitely does a lot in the 25 mins...  Seriously hope they do something with this...

Also, Cenco felt like a character straight out of a Miyazaki film ^_^

It was good but I expected more out of it. I blame that on the short length though.

Nice short! Wouldn't mind to have a series in the future. Would like to know more about these creatures.

Animation:
  • Characters: Outstanding and very good
  • Background: Well done, minimal choice of different shades of a color, nice

The story was nice but with a lack of background info. As said before, wouldn't mind a continuation or series.

The soundtrack is nice, well, at least the two tracks I heard while watching (somewhere in the middle and the ED theme)

I really hope this is turned into a series. It reminded me of FLCL, and the art style was really refreshing. The only thing I didn't like about it was early on in the film because the depth perception wasn't very well done (you can't really tell which characters are closer to the 'camera' than the other characters, so when they walk by it feels kind of weird). I think there's going to be a follow-up eventually, however (there's the clichéd after-credits scene). (Also, supercell!)
Nobody's ever asked me but just in case you're wondering, my name is gibberish.
