As for the music, very much a matter of taste. I loved it. Usually not a fan of vocals in Touhou arranges, but this struck me as simply amazing.

Touhou is a game, not an anime. I doubt you're recognizing characters.

There are a couple parts that aren't quite as smooth as the rest, but a lot of what you might be seeing is the re-encode from niconico to YouTube (speaking of which, the comments are fucking awesome if you watch it on niconico - YouTube really needs to implement something like that). In the end, pretty awesome for something done by fans.
