I'd like to know where did you find out that it was ever supposed to look like the original character designs - from what I seen it seemed that from the start Mel Kishida's character designs were to be adapted to that particular style. Now whether is it a good thing or not, depends on personal preference - I don't mind either way. Just wondering whether it really was meant to be any different.
