« on: November 03, 2009, 12:48:35 PM »
i am trying to take some screenshots of anime with UTF-8 subtitles; however i have tried many different players and the only output i get is just the video without the subtitles. i have tried 3rd party utilities as well but its still nothing.
Help!

whatever difference utf-8 should make to subtitles: did you try the screenshot function (alt+i) in MediaPlayer Classic HC?

Subtitles for this anime don't work at all in MPC classic (and the anime is glitchy in mpc); despite me fiddling with the renderer

well then would you mind sharing with us the name of the release you have problems with. the same issue causing it to glitch in MPC most likely prevents you from doing proper screenshots.
any other bit of information that could help would be appreciated too, as your initial post is relatively vacant (payers you tried, did the screenshots show on screen but are just missing from the screenshots, external or included subtitles, ... etc.).

The release is Divergence Eve by Anime-MX.

I have tried KMplayer, VLC , GOM player and MPC.
KMplayer and VLC are the only two who can play them correctly with subtitles showing.

To take screenshots i use the player's ability. I get pictures but the subtitles are missing even though they are showing on screen

so boobs-in-space it is :P
i got the same release from Anime-MX, and have neither a problem playing it in MPC nor doing screenshots with the subtitles visible (using haali as the renderer).
(click to show/hide)
you might want to clean your system of all those random players and codecs (use cccp insurgent for example) and make a clean install of the newest cccp.
and don't forget to set the subtitle track to the english subtitles, and not just songs+signs.

Easy solution:
Control Alt A in KMPlayer

WOW! Thank you..that fixed it right up.. i suspected it might be a codec problem somewhere!

Clearing your system codecs and installing the latest CCCP will most likely work for you.
If not you can do it with KMplayer, you just have to draw the subs on the image itself - read this guide on how.

Thanks problem resolved now. I did try drawing to image with kmplayer before but that failed. CCCP fixed it :)

Probably because it's not the latest stable version, but the beta - it fails to draw the subs on the image.
But I'm glad it worked for you...
