Gits 2.0 or original
« on: November 03, 2009, 09:35:23 PM »
Hello, i wanna know if 2.0 is much better or should i stay with the classic?
I know some sounds were changed and most of the stuff is cgi, but is it worth watching or should i just stick with the original.

The idea is to get both in 1080p(if available) and see for yourself.

I didn't like 2.0 much. The newer bits don't blend too well.

Me neither. When I heard that they were planning on remaking GitS I thought, "Awesome! GitS 1 fully CGIed." but after watching it, I was utterly disappointed. It had lost a lot of its flair. As Jarudin said, they weren't able to combine the hand-drawn elements with the CGI one very well.

it isn't actually that bad. it is just a matter of style. I mean the beginning scene when she jumps is amazing, wish they had done the whole movie like that but the budget would have been enormous.

Classic is best, no matter the 1080p, it will be best in any form, l consider Gits one of the great treasures of Anime Production.

I think they showed that scene as a teaser trailer and that's why I thought that it were gonna be awesome only to be disappointed.

I <3 both!

Wonder what the live action movie will be like...?  Hopefully not ruined by Hollywood.  :(

CG might blend well with modern animation techniques, but it seems quite jarring when used with traditional hand-drawn animation. I, too, preferred the classic version.

I'm guessing animation matters more than storyline?  :'(

The differences may have been apparent between the forms of animation, but the contrast wasn't "OMG IT BURNS."  I'd say negligible.

<edit> Bad is like the old Streamline Pictures stuff.

storyline is important, but GITS has it's own unique baseline in arts, if thats messed up, and it doesn't even look like GITS it's an auto fail.

The storyline is the same in both, so animation is the only factor to consider. I did try to watch 2.0, but like Jaru said, the CG bits didn't blend well, and I gave up about half an hour in.

Well, the basis was the same.  Otherwise, the development was vastly different.  One thing I liked about the second gig was the deviations from the main storyline.  It had some side-stories that were really cool.  I especially liked the one about the the boy that folded origami, and the girl that loved him... so sweet.  ^.^

I think you are confused. "Ghost in the Shell" is a movie, and "Ghost in the Shell 2.0" is the same movie with redone CG.

I prefered the original, but 2.0 wasn't bad.

Oh?

Oh well, hehe.  In my experience 2.0 refers to GiTS SAC Second Gig, and GiTS: Innocence refers to the second movie.

My mistake, then.

In that case, I still loved both!  The second movie seemingly tried to integrate a bit too much in regards to the philosophical references.  I think it was compensatory with relation to the original.  Still, I consider the second an excellent movie.

Wait wait... we're talking about the 1st movie and not the SAC series, right?

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is a rehash of the first movie (1995), with parts redone or touched up with CG effects and digital art. As far as I know, the story is exactly the same, though some scenes might be presented differently. Not to be confused with GitS: Innocence or GitS: SAC 2nd Gig.
