Cliffhanger animes
« on: November 05, 2009, 01:38:45 AM »
Love'em? hate'em? List the good ones and the bad ones. If this topic is already here delete this and ban me for a week or something. I want to know.

Should continue (as long as "quality" remains)
FLCL-this always seemed like a high school doodle to me, it was like talented anime/manga creators got bored and this is what happened (should happen again)
Haibane Renmei
Samurai Champloo
Bamboo Blade
Full Metal Panic
K-ON
Ouran Host Club
History's Strongest Disciple
Trigun
Toradora!- I personally dont like the way this anime was finished, it was like they got bored and skipped to the end.
Aria
Kanokon
Ah! My Goddess- though it should continue to a real conclusion and not dawdle
Genshiken
Sketchbook~full color's
Seto no Hanayome
Black Lagoon
Tenjou Tenge

Animes that shouldn't continue or should start over from scratch
Naruto
One piece
Bleach
Dragon Ball
Also didn't like the second season of Gunslinger girl. the new art, and feel threw me off. I liked the gloomy atmosphere that should follow something like that.
Xxxholic.. I don't like the way they are working the anime around the manga. Despite having alot of material they arn't capturing the moments like the manga even though they have the abilities of movement and sound.
Claymore- absolutely useless anime, ended completely against the manga and without any real conclusion.
Fate/staynight- who enjoys watching the worst ending in a game? I sure don't even the endings where everyone dies leaves you at least satisfied to the point where you can say at least it concluded. I saw no conclusion in this ending. The war hasn't really stopped, they went there seperate ways for some reason. she dies, he seems discontent (for obvious reasons) and then it ends. No closure, no hope for continuation needs a redo. hate animes like this one.

Rebuttals are also welcome if you explain why... then again this is a internet forum so I expect as much. If the thread isn't deleted.

OK I'll take a crack at a few of them...

Samurai Champloo ~ I don't see the need to drag this story out any longer.  I think the ending was very good, and I feel like adding to it will just water the series down.

Bamboo Blade ~ Will probably make another 24 episodes or so, bit it had cought up to the manga at the time, so I could see them making more if there is a want for it.

K-On - Slice of life.  No matter how much we may love them.  This one has no depth to it.  It is over.  Move on...

Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Kenichi (or histories strongest deciple) ~ last i hear they were thinking about making more.  But I haven't looked into in it a long time.  Definitely would be a good one to continue.  I know they cought up witht he manga, but now the manga is up to 32, but it has only been a Taiwan release

Trigun ~ It was good, Ended good.  Leave it be.

Toradora! ~ Another one where i feel if you add more to it, you water down it's greatness.

Kanokon ~ you are kidding me right.  This one in no way deserves anymore than it has already given.  I mean really, how much more do you want to see the guy get embarassed by a fox g-d?  Well if you don you are lucky

Genshiken ~ they should finish out the Manga.  It has a really good ending in my eyes.  It would work well as a 6 series ova or they could push it to a 12 series season.  Definitely worth another few episodes.

Seto no Hanayome ~ I liked the ending, didn't feel like a clifthanger to me.

Black Lagoon ~ They are making more.  I think a few movies or OVA's I don't recall which though.

Tenjou Tenge ~ would be really hard to make more, because the manga goes off into left field right as the series ends.  Read the manga though and it will make you happy.  I'd like to see more though. And it is a terrible hanger

On Claymore ~ I'd like to see more.  And even though i know they deviated from the manga.  It was still a great watch!

F/S Night ~ Don't #$% with my F/S Night.  The ending was great, and yes i have played the game and there are different endings.  But you can't complain because they did an awesome job with the series up and down.  Jump over to the Fate/Stay Night forum and Havoc, Tatsu, XinWind, Asarta, a few others, and I will be more than happy to talk to you all about the series ;D  Oh and here is something to give you tingly feelings inside

So yeah... That's what I have to say on those series... IF you want deep explainations i'll give them to you, but those are my 2 cent answers.  Can you aford the 2 dollar ones ;)
I have typed these words and you have been forced to read them.  Now you can go cry in the corner if you like :)

FLCL in all its infinite glory ends perfectly. There's absolutely no need for any more.
But I'm with you on:
K-ON! is KyoAni's biggest troll to date. I only hope that they just stopped at 13 episodes because its popularity would negatively affect the re-airing of Haruhi, and once the movie is out we'll get a second season.
Genshiken - I had some hopes, one of the seiyuu mentioned 3rd season in some interview, I think. But after that much time, I don't think it's feasible. And yeah, the manga ending is one of my favorite endings of all the series I've read - it's just perfect.
Sketchbook~full color's - there's always need for more Sketchbook.
And I wouldn't complain if there were more Bamboo Blade to be made.

K-On! was finished perfectly, the sole reason for all fans to have more of it is Yui and the Band Live performance on stage, also the anime ends in year 2 of high school, wich leaves 1 year to finish, l dare to say we need to cover this last year, but were at the mercy of KyoAni in this.

In regards to Black Lagoon, if anyone is reading the manga

(click to show/hide)

I thought Toradora was well-paced. It was actually a satisfying ending for me  :-X

On one hand, I'd like One Piece to keep going, but on the other, I'd like it to end mainly because hard drive space is going to become an issue

There's heaps more material in the Ouran manga so I wouldn't be surprised if another series gets made at some point

Eden of the East and Bakemonogatari.

I'm annoyed that they end both series with no/little resolution, and tell us, "Hey, if you want to see the ending, wait for the movie/last 3 episodes in a few months!"

2 more episodes, first of three is out already, but that was announced long time ago, that 3 last eps will be streamed, l wonder if after them they will go for the prequel season, or at least a movie.

I thought the anime ended well no doubt, but what gets me is the fact that they ended the way they did, they skipped an entire year and went straight to the end. She coulda come back every now and then, did the other girls just give up on him? that's what dissapoints me.
1. I liked bleach when it first started airing, then it went on,
2. I likedthe second arc (kenpachi was awesome), then it went on,
3. Got into the 4th arc and still found it to be awesome, stopped watching at this point cause I had switch to Japanese with subs instead of English dubs and watched to the point where it was just being translated. I waited a long while watching other animes, get back to find they didn't wrap it up like I had hoped for. Aizen was still alive still sitting on his ass, and it was going the way of naruto, dbz, one piece. lengthy filler segments and then some action.  I said feh not interested, he'll probably end up like inuyasha get a new power and accomplish nothing with it, rinse repeat.

So things like it and one piece just can't hold me due to filler episode.

Definitely know what you mean. When I was younger, I used to tape DBZ off the TV in the morning because I had to leave for school while it was airing. Imagine my surprise when Planet Namek took like 7 episodes to blow up instead of 3 minutes. Damn Frieza and his inability to count  >:(

"Animes that shouldn't continue or should start over from scratch"

One Piece.

I want to know your reasons? i can't help but think your just lumping it with others purely because its "long and on-going"

One piece is great, and follows the Manga very well, it is awesomely animated to unlike others.

Haibane Renmei should get a touch up, redo all character animations.  Although I'll wait to see how well the Lain team does Despera before choosing a studio.

I'll follow morrefule's example;

Cliffhangers or whatever the area is
K-On: You can only push something so far, and it didn't much to get pushed on.
Ouran Host Club: I loved this, but it ended fine, it was a "and happy ending as haruhi now enjoys life with friends and continues on with shenanigans".
Aria: Another of my favourite series, but you have to admit, it went on for 3 series and an OVA, also they drew it out to the point of where student becomes teacher. It would kind of repeat itself, but nethertheless I would still loved it.

For ones not listed:
Natsume Yuujinchou: Had an intriguing cliff hanger, would have liked more to happen after.

Recreated
Claymore: Definitely should be remade to fit the manga, but the manga is still ongoing.
F/SN: The anime didn't do great for me, but it was the foundation of my fascination towards the story, so I went onto the Visual Novel. You should note, stories like these are hard to create as animes as you get such unique 'routes' occuring, choosing which one to go with will be a hard decision.

I had the misfortune of watching at least the first 30 episodes on toonami......nough said about that. i watched alot more in japanese and couldn't get over the filler. yes it followed the manga, no I don't care. I would rather have a short conclusive anime/manga that is brilliant, than one that doesn't want to end cause it is doing well.

This brings me to my next point, I assumed all of the continuations based solely on them being true to the previous season, i.e. they didn't get watered down or commercialized.

+1 haibane renmei remake though i want to see what happens with the twins, does the manga continue past that point?
