Based on this I was planning on getting Pro, but with Ultimate only $20 more I don't see any reason not to go all out, plus it gives the 'XP Mode license' which based on reviews I've read actually works as intended.

Of course I did, I'm thinking in the next decade I could lose my job due to the economy, turn to a life of crime and use my computer to schedule drug shipments and body dumps.

Having the piece of mind that my computer will be 128 bit encrypted is just the the sort of thing I would need to keep my head clear so I can exit the country after posting bail. Not to mention it will be in Malaysian and pretending to be Windows XP. Just the sort of thing I'll need to slow the fuzz down so I can work my way through my illicit contacts and eliminate them before they're found.

Seriously though, I doubt I'll use bitlocker, but maybe one day I'll want to lock my computer down, and maybe I'll need to use that XP mode. *shurgs* Who knows, to me the possibility is worth the extra $20.

*nods* The main issue I'm looking at is RAM. Home Premium limits to 16GB.

Between my SLIed Video cards, and 4x 2GB Ram chips (I got them VERY cheap) I'm already more than 2/3 of the way to that limit. Yes it's useless on my XP, I know, Like I said VERY cheap.

I've used this copy of XP pretty much since XP came out and I see myself using Win 7 for the next decade as well, so I don't want to hit a wall the way I did with XP. Which is one of the reasons for going with Pro. Getting Ultimate is simply me thinking "I'm spending $300, why not throw in the extra $20 just in case there's something in there I'll want during the coming decade." The XP mode is more of a bonus/failsafe for me than my reason for going Ultimate.

The memory, I don't think the video memory counts, though not 100% sure. Also with the 6GB I have, I don't see any reason for getting more any time soon. Even games won't require you to have more than 3GB due to legacy 32-bit support anyhow. Even for max performance, I doubt 6GB will be needed within the next 5 years. And by that time there'll be a new Windows version.

XP Mode isn't worth it. It's a virtual machine, so it only works for relatively simple programs that do not require real time interaction (so games, 3d modeling programs, audio programs, etc don't work), and there's few applications that you can't get to work without the compatibility options in the system.

For anime watching, I suggest Shark007's codecs. Good codec pack, and even has a native 64-bit version: http://shark007.net/

Finally, do note that a single copy of Windows 7 may be installed on up to 3 machines at the same time. So don't go buying 3 separate copies where 1 will suffice ;)
