CoreAVC 2.0... coming soon!
kureshii:
ATI Stream support? I would be surprised to see anyone heading in that direction, since from what I heard the Stream API is really hard to use (think shader programming).
It likely won't even be a consideration for future development work, since ATi does support OpenCL now (although a publically available SDK is still missing...). I don't think an OpenCL decoder will be out anytime soon though, since what little I've seen of OpenCL 1.0 benchmarks seems to indicate that it is still far lacking performance-wise. Maybe by the time the 2.0 spec is done it may be much closer to prime time :)
OpenCL is the closest we'll ever get to a decoder than works on both AMD and ATi GPUs anyway... at the moment.

I am not very familiar with any of them, my point is: some sort of unification is necessary. GPUs are proving to be extremely powerful and it makes more and more sense to put more strain on them. Unfortunately, graphics cards are not so cheap to swap from one brand to another just for the sake of obtaining a more "compatible" platform for application developers. I really hope they find some sort of solution soon. At the moment, ATI comes up with rubbish excuses such as "if we make our cards CUDA-compatible NVIDIA will optimise the API to run CUDA applications faster on NVIDIA chips and slower on ATI chips". Knowing NVIDIA and harsh competition in this sector, from business point of view, their point is plausible. But from the point of view of a consumer I simply don't care.

2.0 has been released, and there's already a "less legal" version out free for download.
And of course I installed 1.9.5 a few days ago. You can find the torrent on Jishaku Toshokan. Though it seems the link is broken. The torrent is localed at TPB so find it there and use the magnet link, it worked for me.
