Media Browser and Anime
« on: November 23, 2009, 01:40:11 AM »
Hi!

I was looking at Media Browser and wanted to have something like that for my anime. It has a nice way to browse series, with pictures, descriptions and more information about each one of them (see the gallery for pics ^^). The idea is to download all that from AniDB instead of IMBD or TheTVDB.com (which has very little of anime) but there's currently no tool for doing something like this. I searched in their forum and I found this thread. So, is there any program like Media Browser that works for anime, getting the information from a database like AniDB? How do you organize your anime files? I know you can keep track of your files in websites like AniDB and MAL for example, but I want something more like Media Browser, where I can browse the files locally and when I find something I want to see, click it and play it. There are lots of people who watch anime, someone has to know how to program a program/tool/plugin/whatever to use an anime database for organizing media like Media Browser ;D

What does "[sic]" mean? I don't think anyone got sick in the article so why is it in there? Should I start writing and post "[dump]" when I leave to go take a shit then return?

there is tons of scrappers out there that scrap thetvdb. It does not have as much info as anidb. but last i checked anidb bans ip address for scrapping. There api only allows 3 lookups a minute or something.

Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

Wow, that looks interesting. *installs* I'll be back with comments..

EDIT: Hmm, definitely nice to be able to read the summary, but it doesn't handle h.264 well, even though it seems to be using CoreAVC. Then again I'm playing 1080p. Softsubs don't seem to be appearing. I don't know if I can enable them somehow.

It should support softsubs with no problems, but if you don't like the built in video player you can set it to use an external player like MPC-HC or what ever you prefer. The autotagging as watched won't work if you do but otherwise no problem.

Hmm, I thought there was a thread around here somewhere a few months ago that talked about this and was full of useful suggestions.  I can't seem to find it, though. :/

I've been using Boxee for the past couple of days, and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Hmm, I'll try and install it too. Tell me, does it alter your files in any way? Add hidden covers in your folders? Also, I found you in program so I'm "following" you now. ;)

Ah, I was wondering who added me on there.

I don't believe it modifies files in any way.  I'm not sure about covers, as I'm back home for the break, so I won't be seeing my media center again until January.

There are a lot of cool plugins/apps that you can install for it, too, that allow you to do things like watch Hulu inside of it.  Interestingly enough, it runs smoother in Boxee than in a browser, and I think that Boxee was automatically muting the ads.
