Fiber optics have a lot more capacity and less noise than DSL. Even if the service provider can't offer more than 50 Mb/s (due to various reasons), just having fiber is a big step up from using telephone lines. Either way, the difference between 50 Mb/s and 120 Mb/s is not that big today. You won't max out in most cases, and when you do, whatever you're downloading won't take long to download on either connection. Perhaps you could call it obsolete in a few years, but not now.
Uploading is a different matter. I'm guessing that the upload is equal to the download, or at least that's how it is here. It's good to see that lines across the world get increasingly better nonetheless. The more upload some ISP in Holland has, the more data its users can transmit to me and others. I wouldn't be jealous. If you've got a decent line, be happy with it.
