50 mb/s line is Fiber optics?

Maybe you're a web developer who offers web hosting (true in my case). Granted, I use BlueHost for my hosting, but it's still true...

the reason for the "fiber optic" offer of the Telekom here in germany only going up to 50mb/s is that the fiber only reaches up to the distribution box somewhere in the immediate surrounding of your house. from there it's all old copper cables. the shorter the distance the better the speed. the 50mb/s is only achieved if your house is literary built on top of the distribution hub.

some other companies start building fibers reaching up to the house (still copper to your apartment) with a lot more reliable 100mb/s. potentially even 1000mb/s would be possible if they would care to run the line all the way.

Makes sense! considering the house is in one of those small little towns, that explains it :) thanks

They'd probably laugh and then tell you to buy a business plan.   Most ISP's  terms of service prohibit running servers like that on a residential class connection
