Summer Wars
« on: November 26, 2009, 06:47:43 PM »

Kenji, a eleventh-grader math genius who works in the summer as a part time computer technician for the virtual world of Oz (imagine facebook a handful of decades in the future), is invited by the most popular girl at his high school to her expansive family’s home for a summer job. In the middle of their trip, a hacker infiltrates the network and takes control of Oz, plunging humanity into absolute chaos. Hosoda Mamoru continues where Miyazaki Hayao leaves off in this film loaded with action and emotion that combines beautiful tradition and humor with one of the season’s most imaginative creations: the luminous world of Oz. Virtual rabbit-like heroes take on monstrous shadows in this indisputable summit of anime.

What are your thoughts about this fine movie?

I deleted my unfinished download of the movie. AniDB comments made me wait for a proper release, though I'm definitely going to watch this. It looks interesting and I did like Toki o Kakeru Shoujo.

EDIT: Ah, this is pretty unexpected. Hosoda Mamoru, who is the Director, has directed One Piece: Omatsuri Danshaku to Himitsu no Shima. This happens to be the One Piece movie I like the best. It's got this different atmosphere than all of the other One Pieces movies; a very serious tone which occurs at the end of the movie. Plus, sugoi animation.

Saw it yesterday. Seems quite good, but storyline is similar to many anime out there.

wich anime isn't lol ;] well there are quite a few unique but most are similar to others, the thing is a true fan watches good shows, even if point a is the same in other show, the things that make up an anime different is the way things develop and how cute the girls are ;]

I couldn't finish it, because I stumbled upon buggy fansubs only. So I'm gonna wait till it comes up on BakaBT. Anyway, I rather liked the first 30 minutes, though it looked a lot like Digimon.

I can't find subs of this other than 719x's sub, which has the annoying chinese hard subs under the English softsubs. I haven't watched it yet, but i'm sure I'll enjoy it as I LOVED "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time"

It wasn't Chinese. It was Korean.

Well, there are some decent subs out by Tomodachi and Unlimited Translation Works, so someone's already offered it.

It was good. A bit childish. Definitely reminiscent of both the digimon movie and the girl who lept through time.
And Kazama is a guy. That took me by surprise.

whats the relationship to the girl who leapt through time? I was a bit confused by the description. Is this a continuation of it, or is it totally unrelated and just done by the same director, or what?

cuz i thought the girl who leapt through time was decent but found the ending kinda lacking

To be precise it's not just the director, but many of the key staff from Toki o Kakeru Shoujo.

Just seen it. It's greatly entertaining and you can definitely feel some Digimon in it, but that's not bad in this case.

Takeshi recommends. :)

EDIT: I watched Solstice's versions. But either way, I don't think you can go much wrong by choosing either [Solstice] or [UTW-TMD].

i just watched it and was pretty disappointed :(
while the animation work is pretty well done the story or more precisely the execution of the story idea is hyperventilated and shallow. they dipped into to many themes to execute even one properly. you continuously get the impression the story is rushed, even though nothing actually happens.

that doesn't mean the movie isn't worth a watch - it just could have been so much more with a bit of focus.

480p. I didn't feel like getting 720p down since it's 4GB, and I had already leeched 480p. It was good enough for me. And being a BD rip it's has so much more detail than a DVD rip.

:-\ I had high expectations based on its rank and the review on ANN. I needed something funny in the mix. I prefer to stay away from plots that are designed like a fractal image.
