Do you ever think you'll outgrow anime?
« on: November 30, 2009, 06:50:22 AM »
I am 22 years old, in my last year of college, and engaged. I have been watching anime (as a fan) since I was 12 years old, with no signs of stopping. I don't think I'll ever outgrow it- it's one of my favorite hobbies, and I'm always finding a new series to watch. The depth of topics anime explores-from outright stupid and goofy madness to deep, rich commentaries on the human condition-continues to intrigue me.

What about you guys? Do you think you'll ever give it up?

highly doub't full, you can check my profile and belive it or belive me to say l'm almost 28 years old, and anime is with for the past 16 years, l'd sooner infect my future wife and children with Anime-love Disease rather than give it up, it's far better than watching constant re-makes of moves, and news of kids killing ppl, l preffer watching Higurashi for kids killing and the like, at least l know why they do that, real life is boring in that context, kids kill in real life for money and fake fame, in Anime, at least they have deep meanings like survival, and other things, l simply love higurashi for what it is, l love anime for what it offers, l don't plan to change my life to an extent of not watching anime, l can't even imagine that, l sure can stop watching for a day or tw since l might be waiting for new eps, but other than that, there is so much to watch, and so little time.

I certainly hope I never grow out of it. I can't see it happening, even if future anime takes a turn for the worse, the amount of currently existing series's I still wanna watch will take me years to finish :D

I REALLY don't think so. I'm 23 years old now, been watching anime for 10 years, and I show no signs of getting bored of it. And there's really no reason why I SHOULD outgrow it.

it's na impossible task to finish them all, l'll salute to the person that wil lwatch every anime there is, l'll just stick to those that are to my liking ;] and that will take like another 100 years of enjoyment :] before l die in the next 32 years :D

It's true. I always find a whole slough of stuff i never knew existed. For example, I've been really into the whole Super-Robot genre lately. I've also discovered the world of seinen- I just watched Monster, and have been reading Berserk and 20th century boys. I'm sure of got plenty of great stuff I've yet to discover and watch.

Do people ever tell you guys you should stop watching anime because you're getting older? Theres this whole idea sometimes that we're supposed to give up fun stuff as we "grow up"-your thoughts:

some ppl do say that, but l usually reply : "Just at what age do you think are the ppl making theese Anime shows huh ? you think the yare teenagers ? nu-uh, those are old enough ppl to make you and me look like kindergarten, and the yare more mature than you will ever be."

pretty much shuts the up for a realy long time in that topic, and sometimes they fall to the dark side of anime  XD

Turned 30 this year and I am still going strong :)
That said my taste has definitively changed, I have much higher demands these days and don't just watch anything just because it happens to be anime.
Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

I am still a younging to both the world and anime. Only 17 and been loving anime for 2 years now. I really hope I don't give it up.

I get completely trashed by my friends about it cause I am the only one that really loves anime but I won't give it up because of that. Not in a million years. There is always a new series to watch always more to download. Especially since at the moment I am loving most anime, bar a select few from the Sci-fi Mecha genre. I am not really into that at the moment but I hope I will be later because I have far too much to ignore it. :P

I don't think I'll ever outgrow Anime, as long as they continue to make  mature themed shows,  or at least something passable as mature that has a good story and action.

Its just another valid entertainment medium to me.

I've only recently 'found' anime and I've become addicted to it, as I do with most new things I get into.

Hopefully I'll get past the 'addicted' stage soon (4 weeks and counting, over 95gig d/l'd from various places) and scale back to being a 'normal' anime viewer, although I have yet to figure out what normal is for an anime watcher.

I can't see myself not continuing to watch anime for a very long time, if ever, the entertainment value is pretty high for the most part and the quality of most of it way up there, even Excel Saga (a friend told me to watch it and I did, all 26 eps!(not in one go!)) had fairly high quality.

If you want to know how old I am, check my profile, pretty sure it's there somewhere  :P

I think, if you've passed the teens and a bit into the 20's, and still enjoy anime, you won't ever outgrow it. Of course there will be ups and downs, and you might not watch as much as you once did, but I don't think you'll "outgrow anime".

I often wonder if I'll be a 60 year old man watching anime and playing video games in my spare time..
the thought sometimes scares me as I think the answer is yes.

lol, that question terrifies me even more.
I'm watching Welcome to the NHK right now and some parts are hitting me a little to close to home, at least on the emotional level if not the physical happenings.

Sorry but,  that is about "normal" for Anime  ;D

I've got a 160gb Passport I am using as a stop gap until I can spare the cash to get a good drive between 1 - 2TB.

Anyway you guys worried about being old and into this stuff shouldn't be.  If you look back through time the pattern is clear that most generations will hang on to what they pick up from the time they are teens.  Its completely normal,  so while it may seem strange to picture a 60 year old man watching Anime and playing video games,  the technology at that point in time will make our stuff look like ancient crap to the kids of the day.

It's like your grandparents that listen to Lawrence Welk  and stuff.   They probably started that around the same age bracket we are now.  And while they may have techno-phobia and not understand Anime,  we have had the privilege of growing up with it from a very early age,  so we will have a much easier time keeping up with new technology, because we don't know anything else BUT technology and Anime and games.

One day your grandkid will insult you when you pull out an NES or a Wii and you'll launch into some odd lecture about how  "In my day we had to open the console to change the game, and we only had wireless controllers as long as our batteries were charged!" :-*

Just occasional low cravings of anime for me

But rewatching some random episodes of my favourites quickly fixes it

No.  Except I do get sick of the teenager and sudden girlfriend cliche's.  Then I need a break or something more adult-ish or serious.
