Seems like a good enough thread to ask..

What's the difference between a Kimono and a Yukata ?

Watching Lucky Star, they really appear to be the same and I'd never heard of a Yukata before then.

From what I remember, a yukata is a summer kimono.

(How random. I'm watching Lucky Star right now too)

Japan, failing that most likely eBay.

Ginza shopping district. It's not that far.

When you're already in Japan!

The Japanese Department store at the mall does sell vintage kimonos, obis and the over jacket (I dunno what it is called no it's not really a hapii coat). They are kinda pricey. They also sell yukatas & the obi for them as well.

Note: I live in Hawaii.

A Yukata is a single layer summer kimono. A "regular" kimono is a multi-layer garment.

Also Yukata are usually made of Cotton while Kimono are usually made of silk.
Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

That's really interesting,  because even through the Animation I kind of got that  "cotton or something thick" vibe from the way they drew them.

I think my mom had a Kimono at some point,  or at least some silk knock-off design.  That was a long time ago though.

My boyfriends mum has a load that his dad got her when he was in Japan. I've not had chance to look at them yet though
