My friends, Hell has frozen over.....
« on: December 04, 2009, 05:39:49 PM »
We're in the middle of a blizzard down here in Houston.  Well, what amounts to a blizzard in this city.  It's only snowed 27 times in the last 114 years, and it's already broken the top 10 in about half an hour.

It's the earliest snowfall in Houston's recorded history, and at the rate it's going, it could be the heaviest snow the city's had since 1895. There's still quite a way to go before it catches up with the 4 - 5 inches seen in 1960, but it's snowing pretty hard right now.

It took about 10 minutes from the point it began to stick to the time of this picture:

It's been 20 minutes since then and we're now at about an inch.

My dog's never seen snow so she's so freaked out that she won't even go outside.

We got flurries in town yesterday, and early this morning.  It's about that time for us.  Though I think Madison got hit harder.

I remember the first time I went out with my mom on my permit I was driving on I-94 and drive straight into a fucking blizzard type snowfall.   Talk about a freak out.  Shit came from nowhere.

That's pretty fucked up.  It's 33 degrees here; normally it's in the mid sixties at this time of year.

I took this the day after thanksgiving, it was actually our first snowfall here in Cleveland which came late. We've had quite a warm November.

Sounds nice. A little over a week ago we got 50 cm of snow in 24 hours, most of which is still on the ground. It's only -7ºC right now (at noon), but it's supposed to drop down to -30 by monday and they expect more snow over the weekend.

I don't really like snow, so I have no clue why I continue to live here.

If it gets to that point down here, which it very well could, the city will probably shut down.  They have fuck all in the way of snowplows.

it's cold enough for snow here sitting at 32F mid day, just no rain at the time to become snow. I am guessing we will probably be seeing our first snow fall for the year here soon, let's just hope I get white holidays.

And it died as quickly as it started.  Too bad, I was hoping to see the mayhem 3 or 4 inches of snow would initiate.

Yeah, we got a pretty good snowfall in Madison.  Already all the sidewalks and roads are covered in ice.  It's fucking freezing to boot.

Well, I got to see a bit of mayhem.  No fewer than 30 tow trucks(in houston you get trucks from multiple companies, and multiple trucks from each company responding to every accident - there's something along the lines of an electronic coin toss and the winner gets to tow away the wreckage), at least five police cars, two ambulances, and a full blown fire truck responded to a fucking two car accident, pretty much shutting down northbound traffic on a 7 lane highway.

We've not even had ice here yet. I got all excited when they gritted the roads a few days back but nothing happened :,(

Up North my ass. I'm a Midlander :P

And we had heavy snow Boxing Day a few years back (my mum was scared we'd get stuck at my aunts, and she hates my aunt, lol) but for the most part its been January to March time. But seeing all this snow makes me want some now!

Where the fuck is our snow? We've gotten nothing for snow these past few years. I'm quite disappointed.

Try Florida, aside from today with the constant depressing rain... it's December and 70+ degrees F...

Seriously? With that little dusting? I grew up in Cleveland, and maybe I take driving in deep ass snow for granted. I've driven in snow deeper than my tire height. And we don't have chains on our tires or anything... I'm cheap and lazy, so most of the time my tires are bald and metal is poking through :P

You misunderstood.  There were that many trucks responding to a single two car accident.
