[edit] In all honesty, I would like to ask our staff to participate with their own banners as well. At the very end, this is only done once in a year :)
Bullseye! :D Thought I think that they are so busy/lazy with moderating users and offers and adoption requests, so they delegated the job to us ^^

okay, i modified my first one, but it seem kind of empty with smaller snowflakes...any suggestions?

I really like the composition, but something's missing...maybe the guy on the right isn't standing out enough, you could try fiddling with the levels, adjusting the contrast/saturation or something. And is that a snowflake shape on the staff? That would be neat if we could see it, maybe bring it down and straighten it out so it's parallel with him? And if you want to follow the rules to the letter you could put the text on the right and the guy on the left (then you could flip him so that his staff is on the right).

I'm not even sure it needs snowflakes in all honesty. I didn't notice them until it was mentioned and they seem to be making it  a little busy now

Agreed, I don't think it needs the big snowflakes, they get in the way of the shrine.

they might be busy alright, but it would be nice to see a banner that resembles them.

for example,

a music themed new year banner from psyren,
or a fierce fox themed new year banner from James Pearson :)

N20, that K-oN banner looks great; it's simple but really sharp.

V2 from my first Banner.

Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion

Wee-ooh wee-ooh, Anti-Aliasing Police! Just turn on AA on the text. Seeing Rei turned like that is kind of disorienting, but I see you did that to fit a bigger image of her in.

...render didn't turn out quite how I expected, I thought using blueray screen shot would be look fine but guess not.

v2 of my first one. Increased the contrast as per feedback and it does look alot better.

Haru and Kyoko from Hitman Reborn

Started on a second before going to bed last night. Needs fixing up but any general feedback on it would be awesome. I put tree over far side since RSS feed button is there and thought it would seem nice there. I'm starting to think otherwise though.

Example:

Lala from To Love-Ru

hmmm...the staff isn't a snowflake but maybe i can find a way to bring it in more. I have a couple ideas. As for flipping him over, i don't think that will work because characters are designed a certain way with hair and such and flipping them tends to make the look weird imo. i may however find an equally good screen shot of himm from the other side that may work. i'll play with it a bit more and see what i can do. thought o be honest for the sake of variety I think having the text on the left in a few is nice..just like having it centered in some is nice..

oh well, I'll play some more and see what happens. thanks.

@scotsman: You beat me to it with that Sekirei banner ;D.  Also, that's Musubi next to Tsukiumi, not Minato...

Im really sorry to bother.. but.. I believe that christians all over the world knows that, in that day, we celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ. So on that note, I believe that its not wrong to put the "Marry Christmas" on the banner. Although, Happy Holydays (for all that "holy" might refer to) Its not wrong either.
Just a thought... My English kinda sucks nowadays. Sorry. :-[

One other thing, "Coke" or in my Country "Coca Cola" its the owner or should I say "creator" of Santa Claus < "Saint Nicholas of Bari" the real saint (Holland check it out)>, and those funny red and white hats that we all get our heads into, or the o´so funny "Ho Ho Ho" and so many other things about this Holy day. So I really dont know where Im heading. Im just thinking out loud.
Anyways
Oh I forgot.... this is my first comment. :P

BakaBT Community. I salute!!!!

Thanks for pointing that out

No one has Merry Christmas on there banners, unless I missed one.
Santa existed centuries before coca-cola, it was the suite that coke changed, it used to green, if I remember right.
Du du du du du always coca cola, anyone else remember those ads....good times, good times.

:( Yeah, 'cause Duki said not to... I would like to see some "Merry Christmas!" banners, personally... But I'm trying not to make too much more trouble for a while... :P

So....
What was the verdict on the red backgrounds?

Anyways....It's very simple ...

v1.0

Here is a site example:
it's not the correct size but it's only an example :p

Did you use paths tool? you use gimp right?
you can also try the fuzzy select tool....set the threshold pretty high (I used around 80-90 on a 1920x1200 picture)...and it should make quick work of removing the background....
using the paths tool is pretty time consuming but necessary if you want a really clean render.

Edit2:
Actually integrated with the rest of the site to see how it looked....Didn't turn out so nice =/...
Gonna have to find a different background color....but shana was made for red :'(
maybe have a css contest? XD

Hmm... I assume that the rest of the site layout will be temporarily made holiday-themed as well, and that is why different banners were needed?

Well that's clearly up to the overlords of the universe... Read staff...
Well since duki wanted the background to integrate well with the current site the possibility is slim...
