Robots
darkjedi:
^^
We plan to deploy this to A'stan first for field practice.
mgz:
its extremely silly to be trying to focus on humanoid robots, as its pretty much a fact the humanoid shape is inferior when scaled and difficult to reproduce with robotics.
Which is why you get a robot that can barely walk and its an "achievement" the reason we dont have a majority of the companies in the world making humanoid robots or trying to develop for it is because its a waste when you can develop other things to be more effective and functional for cheaper.
darkjedi:
Humanoid robots can lead to artificial appendages that are compatible with humans in the future, leading to humanity's benefit. Not very silly. Robotics scientists know the stuff they are working on and how they can benefit mankind.
To make an example, a running robot could yield a pair of artificial legs that could enable a quadriplegic to run again.
Oh and, powered armor or exoskeleton stuff for soldiers too. 8)
Robots like Mahru can already emulate human arm movement to a limited degree. Same thing can be used for like, an exoskeleton or a separate robot unit for a construction worker lifting heavy objects by himself without use of other heavy equipments, etc beside soldier stuff if they are more streamlined.
mgz:
currently its not the appendage that would be limiting the ability to attach robotic limbs to a human, but rather the ability to program it to communicate and function with the human brain.
darkjedi:
That is where robotics researches branch.
It's wrong to assume that they are focusing only on limbs just because videos of them are the only ones we've seen. It only means that they have progressed into a fully demonstrable level. (making robot arms move as fluid as a man's arm can be)
Focusing solely on cybernetics is not very productive also. The apparatus that will be manipulated by the cybernetics should achieve some level of usability first so that cybernetics itself will develop use.
