mgz:
the hard part isnt getting the motors to work, its getting a power source for them and making their programing function.

The reason why the humanoid designs are a particular pain is because of how fail the human bodies design is from a standpoint of physics.
Thats why midgets and giants within the human species fail miserably as it is.

Specifically the most difficult part other then power supplies = getting the thing to maintain full balance while moving at any kind of normal pace which is why bullshit like asimo or w/e move slow as fuck. Robotics being attached to people have far less hurdles to jump over as far as the balance issue goes, however power issues and communication is still extremely limited.

There are robotics scientists who are working on cybernetics.

Again, It's only that the results of their cybernetics research is not yet fully demonstrable, and that's why we are led to think they are only focusing on locomotive robotics.

It also again means that demonstrability of locomotion was easier to achieve than the demonstrability of cybernetics - not that they are neglecting cybernetics - and it's pretty obvious too why that is the case. Even when we study our own physiology we understand the... 'physicals' more than we understand the 'psyche', like how we understand the muscles, skeletons etc better than we understand the brain. Our study of robotics seem to be subject to the same phenomenon. It's only natural that the study of simple humanoid/bipedal locomotion in robotics is progressing by many paces faster than the study of cybernetics when we inherently know more about the former than the latter.

Btw, the study of power sources... what field of study does that belong to? As in, could it be called 'power source technology' like 'information technology', etc.

Hmm... this reminds me Festo Bionic Learning robotics:

Non humanoid robots, no matter what the purpose, are so much cuter than those creepy fucking things.

Don't you just want to cuddle with it?

--- Quote from: Reape on December 06, 2009, 09:53:50 AM ---Better yet than just to develop robots to help us would be to merge or replace our own brains with computers and become robots ourselves. In the end technological beats biological in every single area and would allow ourselves a much wider experiences too as well as the possibility to more easily shape our own personalities the way we want them to be.

Would you happen to be a transhumanist?
If so i'm glad to not be the only one on these forums.
