Reading Device
mgz:
not to mention the point of the ereaders in general is that the screens on many of them are designed not to strain or stress the eyes when reading on them for hours on end.
As for reading manga thats completely different, but if your actually looking to read books on it just think about how shitty it is to read dozens upon dozens upon hundreds of pages on your pc monitor it sucks.

A netbook with longer battery life and a screen that doesn't make my eyes bleed after a few hours. Oh, and no keyboard.
I don't want more cpu power; I want more flexibility in what I can do with it. I'm not planning on writing code on the thing, but merely want to be free of any silly restrictions that are placed upon me by the software shipped with the device.

I don't need this for manga/on-line comics. This is going to be a present for my relitive who likes to read book. I thoght this would be good for her since she has about 150-200 books in the basement.

I don't want to derail the thread much longer, but wouldn't many of these restrictions exist so as to ensure publisher support? I have to wonder whether a Linux eReader would be financially viable. Would publishers support an open eReader? A eReader without books, well it wouldn't be worthless, but you sure aren't going to sell a bunch of them.
Kuroshima:
Not really.... The screen is pretty sharp and zooming and panning is easy...
