Why does pressing "tab" have two different results in Notepad?

(1/2) > >>

HrtOfSword:
I just noticed that you can have two different results when pressing "Tab" in Notepad.
1. You get a very small space if you type "Tab" if you typed it directly after something like [abcdefg].
2. You get a very much wider space if you type "Tab" if you typed it directly after something like [2009] or [2009 Dec].

And for some strange reason, you get a very small space typing "Tab" after [2009 Dec 10 - ver V0.86], a medium wide space after [ver V.0.86] or [ver V0.86 ], and a very wide space after [2009 Dec 10 - ver V0.86 ].

Does anyone know why this phenomenon is there, what causes it and how to control it?

Tab goes to certain margins. It's not the equivalent of like 7 or 8 slaps to the spacebar. It goes to a certain spot each time. (At least in word it does... not sure about notepad)

This is BakaBT forums, not goddamn Yahoo Answers or Ask Jeeves. It's fine if you have one or two tech issues you need help with, but don't post every question that pops off the top of your head >_<

If you want to control tab indent settings, don't use Notepad. Get a replacement: Notepad2 or Notepad++ recommended.

Ok, sorry about it. The reason I'm posting tech questions on bakabt is because this forum has tech-savvy people who are not only experienced and have similar interests but more importantly are trustworthy.
I just realized the question I posted on this thread is kinda mediocre and could have been answered on Yahoo Answers, so I'll apologise for it.

I hear kureshii loves to be asked these questions in IRC. You can get real-time support from him there.
