Recommend me some games. ( NO NOT PURE RTS ARGHHHH)
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:50:43 AM »
So god knows how fuckin much hours I've dumped into Railroad Tycoon 3, Tropico1&3, Capitalism 1&2, Sid Meier games (all of em), Dawn of Discovery (a.k.a Anno 1404), Sim City , Stronghold the original not the shitty sequels, Stardock games, Paradox games(hearts of iron, some ship trading game, europa univerasallis etc),  and a couple more that I can't recall at the moment.

Anyhow, can anybody recommend some decent simulation, trading, RTS with a mix of these elements, or anything that is similar to the mentioned games.  I know I could google shit up but I thought I'd try and see if there are any sim fans on this forum.

And no I will not play EVE online.

I DON'T WANT/NEED PURE RTS GAMES, I'M LOOKING FOR EITHER TRADING SIM OR RTS WITH A HUGE CHUNK OF MICRO MANAGEMENT

WORLD OF WARCRAFT!!!!!!!!

I've played it, got tired after beating the content in 07 sold the account and got a nice phat $$ from it. I don't have the same enthusiasm and lack any patience in playing that boring game all over again.

Warcraft: Reign of chaos
Warcraft expansion pack: the frozen throne.

Best game I've ever played. I've played alot of games. If you don't get addicted to that game then you don't deserve to play it.

ya i played for 3 years and now the game is so easy(and boring) i was about to get full epics in 6-7 days. The PvP is retarded too most class have some sort of WTF pwn spell to kill you in secs.(paladins for example can kill you in about 10 secs maybe more if their gear sucks) Healing classes in PVP are often unkillable.

Age of Empires 2

Sure it's old as hell and the internet play was taken down (Though you can still direct connect),  but it's still my top RTS.  Right in front of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 1.

I hear Rise of Nations is quite good.

(Not trading or whatnot in the 3 mentioned above, but w/e)

I've played Rise of Nations and its expansions, RoN was great but the sequel was meh I didn't dig it as much. AoE & Warcraft 1-3+expansions, same deal. I was a fan of Westwood Studios when I played the original C&C but I lost interest after RA2 and Generals. Most of THQ's games (CoH, DoW etc).

Just fyi, I've played a shitload of RTS this is why I was looking for more of a sim RTS(?) like Stronghold where you get to build an army and improve your kingdom but at the same time have problems keeping your bitchass people happy enough to actually work in building armor for your troops, tending to farms to feed them, working at quarries to stockpile stones etc.

red Alert 1,2 and 3.
I think he's looking for more resource-management/city-builder kind of games.

If you like Railroad Tycoon you should try Transport Tycoon it's not as detailed as the Railroad Tycoon but has more modes of transport [trains/planes/automobiles/ships]
Theres an open source version if your interested with added features http://www.openttd.org/en/.

EDIT:
You might also want to check out Settlers II or III, the later ones aren't that great but the old ones are pretty good and they have a lot of micro management.

Take a look at the Rollercoster Tycoon series. I "wasted" a lot of time with the first one, not sure if the later are better or worse.
Space Colony, a bit The Sims like but mission oriented and of course it's a space colony you are building not a house.
Far West, western slow paced rts, focusing on breading and herding cattle's with occasional run ins with competing cattle-ranchers.
As someone said below Settlers 1-3. 10th Anniversary of Settlers II was a very nice remake (think tropico 3 compared to tropico 1).
Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

Why do I feel it would be beneficial to get Settlers of Catan + Cities and Knights expansion and telling you to play that with your friends...?

(PS: It's a board game)

If you haven't tried the total war games, you could also try Empire: Total War.

13 replies and yet only 6 people seemed to have read my post and understood it.

No people I'm not looking for just "any" game, I'm looking for certain games that scratch that certain itch.

Have you tried Outpost Kaloki X?

I haven't played it but I've heard it was quite good

Did a wikipedia search (lol) for this topic, and it seems like you've pretty much already got the bases covered on...

City-Building gamesBusiness Simulation games, and Trade Simulation games

I'm not really big on the trade/micromanagement genre, so I can't really help you past this.

you didnt specify which sim city you've played:

Sim City 3000 <--- cool game, entertaining, teaches you a little bit bout managing.
Sim City 4 ? <---that shit is HARD. like you really have to know how to manage, no mercy here

Sim city societies <---- piece of crap, forget about managing. this is more of "the sims" but a bit more of a larger scale.

TBH sim city 4 was an overkill of management and I could only get one city out of every 3 to actually not go bankrupt. My brother made it on all (he studied business administration so. . .) My physics course doesnt help much on this game =/

also there's the other "tycoon" series.
zoo tycoon <----- never played it.
roller coaster tycoon <---- actually played it and enjoyed it for a couple of months
