I agree it wasn't the most original in terms of story (Deity unaware of what it/she is + Sleeping Beauty). But before Haruhi, Tsundere was a slang word that not many yet knew of. Haruhi grabbed a hold of that definition, and owned it. She made it hers. She solidified the definition of the word. An entire character type. Now everyone knows of it. She spawned copy cat characters. Was parodied in numerous other shows. Not only that, the Haruhi dance + music is also popular. In that way, The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi was a game changer. The show had quite a large effect on the last 3-4 years of the decade. That's why, in my opinion, it should be on the list. :)

Yet another post-apocalyptic masterpiece. The first episode alone will help you realize how things are serious with this one. Unfortunately, it would be difficult to describe the plot without giving spoilers but let's just say the struggle to survive is at the center of the plot of Texhnolyze and I assure you, it will be one hell of a struggle and this time there are no heros to save the world.
The main characters in the story are so serious and dedicated to their individual cause, you might start to think they are not fictional at all :) The pace is slow at the beginning and tries you from time to time but being patient definitely pays off. You will realize how dangerous we humans are, in a fantastic way :)

YES! Texhnolzye has got to be my favorite anime. I hate endings like the one in Texhnolyze but i would have to say it was the most satisfying ending that i have ever watched in an anime. The whole series was just great even at the beginning when it was slow i wanted to know more. I couldn't stop watching because i wanted to get to know the main character.
