I Think Comcast is..
« on: December 17, 2009, 09:03:55 AM »
I think comcast is fucking with me. I've been seeding these two animes for a few days now my average upload speed is about 100-150 kb/s (slow i know) but now its been slowed to 13-40 kb/s. When i change the port it speeds way up to 500 kb/s (thats because of the power boost) and gos within normal range then it slows back down to 13-40 kb/s after a few minutes. I've done this many times now i think comcast is just playing with me or something.

Anyone one have any ideas?  ???

It's comcast, it's known.
Try being on BT. You can get a CONSTANT 7-10kb/s all the time. :D

I'll just be thankful I'm not on chiya's connection.

I live about 200 metres from my BT exchange, and we had terrific speeds when we first got the net. THen after 2 months we couldn't even load youtube between 6pm and midnight : /

Yeah, I'm using comcast (nothing else in my area to use, other then dialup). Anyway I get great speeds for about 5-10 seconds, then they cap it (eg, 700kb/s down and 0-10 up, when supposedly should get 10mb/s) I find that if I throttle my upload speed below a certain point, I get better upload speed (over time.) I haven't found the exact limit, just that seeding at 65kb/s will stay that way and seeding at 90kb/s or above drops down to 0-10kb/s and stays that way. My suggestion would be find the point where comcast stops messing with your upload and just leave your torrent client on all the time.

Or spend a little bit more and go business class.  Constant 2Mb/s torrent upload speed is pretty cool.

You've hit your 150- 250gb cap "whatever it is"

you wont get good upload speeds until next month
just try to keep a balance in how and when you download and it shouldnt be an issue/
they also throttle traffic at peak hours.
starting around 2:30-3pm until 10-11pm sometimes (They dont throttle consistently, just as need arises)
If you've got a history of high traffic you can bet you'll be the first to taste it
you can get around it in a mild to moderate way by optimizing your bt client

Comcast still throttles your connection when you use what they call "too much bandwidth in a small amount of time".

Naru: Do you have Comcast business? I know they don't throttle there.

Comcast sucks. I hate them. I wish there was another provider in my area. :(

We've been thinking of switching to At&t buts it not available in our area. My brother switched to it and he said its a lot better then comcast.

Comcast is better than Americable...

which is what I have to deal with (at least until I get my house off-base)

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

I have Comcast and they haven't given me too much trouble. Basic billing gives me 16Mb/s down and 2Mb/s up. From what I can tell, its not throttled. Its rare for me to get more than 1MB/s down from a single source, but the total can, and does stay at a constant 2MB/s at times. Usually, thats when I'm using the package manager (apt-get or the aptitude) to download programs. For torrents, its usually "capped" at 1MB/s.

Must be nice. Charter has left us in the Dark Ages, the best connection offered is 10/2. Forget DOCSIS 3 I wish they would just give us DOCSIS 2 speeds. Other non-DOCSIS 3 areas can at least get the 20/2 service.

ya comcast defiantly throttles stuff, its listed on one of the wiki pages faq i belive. I can get speeds of over 100K but thats usually when i have tons of connections up  on that torrent. Most of the time each individual connection is like 5-10k upload =( it sucks, ive tried lots of different possible fixes but nothing works, its just the way comcast is. Still have a 3/1 ratio though just by seeding a shit ton of stuff at once, but it takes a while

Strange. I wonder why I don't have that problem. When I was downloading Darker then Black 2 yesterday I was going so at a constant 1MB/s.
