Utorrent port problem..
Ultima:
Ohayo! 8)
So I have looked around on the wiki page, and also here on the forum but havn't found answers on my question.
Seems I have some problem with a port on Utorrent, and I'm just wondering if It's a big deal or something I really should try and change. According to the message on Utorrent this is what I get "Not connectable - A firewall/router is limiting your network traffic, You need to upen up a port so others can connect to you.
To give you some information:
OS: Windows XP SP3
utorrent client: 1.6
AVG Firewall (disabled)
Windows Firewall (disabled)
Router: Netgear RP614v4
I have tried to login to my router at 192.168.1.1 and login in with admin / password
as default, but seems like I can't get in. So off to my question, as first then is it really necessary to open up the port that utorrent is suggesting?, will it make a big difference? And what port should I use on utorrent?
Also seems like I most reset my router to be able to login to it, and open up the port, but which port should I use at utorrent in the first place?
Thanks.
Edit: My port issue is now fixed, though a new problem has evolved... Posted it further down in this topic to prevent to spam topics. Have been checking the wiki about this, but havn't been able find anything about this issue. Might be lookin at wrong places, but if you might know the issue please scroll further down the topic, thanks!
Edit: Think I have found the issue of my other problem now, was searching some more on the forum and find someone with the same problem as me. Since I recovered my uniqe passkey it seems that I most download all my torrents and torrentfiles again for it to work, since I got another passcode now. Tried it and It's working while downloading now atleast. Just gonna wait to see if my uploading works aswell. I'll keep you posted.
psyren:
1) Do you own the router, or did it come from your ISP?
2) Did someone else in your house set up the router?

Yes I own the router, and It's Setup by myself. Even though I can't remember setting up a username / password myself, but going for the default admin + password. Seems like the only way to login to my router is to reset it to get default values.
But still, will it effect my dl/ul speed if I have a port that is opened and working along with utorrent?
And If that's so is there a special port I should open?

You set it up yourself, yet you can't get into it?
Having an open port will mean people can connect to you, rather than waiting for you to connect to them. Think of it as one way glass.
Secondly, there is no special port you should open. Pick a random number and use that. Just avoid port 80, which is usually reserved for HTTP.

Hehe that seems right. I did setup it like 2 years ago, and opened all the needed ports back then. Seems like I managed to enter a username and password back then, which I can't remember today. Even though I'm kinda sure that I just stayed with the default values. But since I can't login, I most have set a Username and pw back then so ye, I did setup it myself but can't login to it xD Bad situation I guess.
Allright so I could use the randomized port that Utorrent gave to me, open it up and the problem should be solved? :)
