--- Quote from: Smokeyjr2 on December 22, 2009, 11:41:41 PM ---My friend who is vary smart with computers and stuff told me that AVG is corrupt. Supposedly someone has hacked AVG and installed viruses in AVG itself. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I uninstalled AVG and installed my free McAfee.(Because i use comcast i get this for free)

AVG itself isn't corrupt. Malware modified it's settings allowing more malware to get in.
Avoid the new version of AVG. It's too intrusive and uses more resources.

Ok thx for your replys

AVG 9 was a nightmare. Not only was it a nightmare to get it from 8.5 TO 9.0... it's one very screwy piece of software.
I concur. I used to advertise AVG and Avira for "free versions" but now, I might consider going with Avira again. (Once I get off my lazy ass to actually tediously uninstall this abomination.
EDIT: Gotta toss out some hate vs Nod32. Unless you actually know how to use the damn thing, the settings lock you out of certain programs, or don't scan certain media programs. I recall having nod32 for a good 5 months or so, realizing my computer was slow as shit, checking this and that and realizing I must have had a virus. Did probably 30 scans (literally) could not catch anything. Uninstalled and installed AVG 8.0 (Back in the old days) and AVG caught it right away. It's why I don't recommend Nod32 to people especially if they're computards.

Although I agree with zat0x91 to a certain
degree I do like having some anti virus
around, updated and ready to do its stuff.
Have a look at Bit Defender Free Edition
it's quite good.

I would actually suggest Norton 2010, if you can spare a bit of change, because it's probably quite good.
I used to use Norton 2009, and it was great. Didn't use that many resources, wasn't intrusive, etc. It was just all around great; 2010 is supposed to be even better.
That being said, I'm using Avast and the default Windows Firewall right now, because I don't want to pay for something that really isn't a problem here. From what I can tell, I haven't really had any viruses or anything. Heck, Avast hasn't detected a single thing for me... like... ever. Either the viruses I have right now don't do anything at all (and Avast isn't picking them up...), or I'm just not being enough of an idiot for it to actually do something.
Oh, and Avast is pretty good. It kind of stays out of your hair...
... Maybe a little too much. Sometimes I don't know if it's actually doing something besides detecting a random false positive every now and then. The only thing it does these days is pop up that little blue notice up and go "Your virus database has been updated". >_>;
