Kyou no Go no Ni/Today in class 5-2
« on: December 23, 2009, 12:58:26 AM »
the only thread i saw other than uploader stuff was one briefly commenting on the 2008 tv series and it was quite old

was gonna give this show a look after seeing some amusing scereenshots. I hear its pretty good, though im not really sure what makes it so special. The description makes it sound like a generic school comedy, with an ecchi tag.. how ecchi are we talking? what makes it stand out?

the biggest problem is that it seems the fansub releases are kinda a mess.

the original OAV is easy enough to find. Im assuming thats the best one, and the one most people refer to?

the problem is when you get to the 2 follow ups. the TV 2008 series seems like it never got a decent subber. The chiro one is slammed everyhere i read. Not just for translation, which i could probably live with, but i hear the actual encode was a friggin mess, with audio skipping, and visual problems left and right. Is this exagerated, or is it true? I can live with mediocre speed sub translations, but when the encode/vid qualitys poor enough to effect the viewing thats a problem, especially since i watch it on a big screen.

Why isn't it on BBT btw? The reasons i was reading was because DATS was suposed to be releasing a version, but they stoped on ep 2 a long time ago. Is the quality just too piss poor, even for a speedsub, or is there another group out there taht im not seeing that plans on finishing it?

not really sure what i should gofor on this one if i want to see it.. just bite the bullet and gofor the chiro one?

the 2nd OAV/3rd release is pretty self explanitory, i only see one sub out there from a group called subsmith. Is that the only option? How is it? Im curious why its not on BBT, im wondering if its really bad or something. Theres no comments for it that i can see.

As far as continuity im a bit confused. The relationship i see goes first OAV> TV series (that i dont see a good sub of) > 2nd OAV. However it lists the original TV series and 2nd OAV as alternate versions from the original OAV. How are they related? Would it be comparable to the original Tenchi Muyo OAV, and then the Tenchi TV series? Kinda the same characters but they changed them around a bit and took out/added some?

I heard this series pretty good so i wanted to check it out but it seems like the subbers avalible for it were slim picking and it got kinda mucked up =(

oh ya, one last thing. Im guessing you dont gotta worry for the OAV's, but the 2008 tv series, was that censored? I dont supose theres really a choice of what to get even if it was since all i see is the chihiro ones

I guess in the meantime i'll try to snag the original OAV and see if its even worth pursing the other 2 versions

All I got to say is you think wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy y too much.

Why not just lay back and just watch the first episode of it all and see if you like it?
Just look for who released it, compare it to the others, pick the best, then watch.

Sorry, but you take so much time to question things that you are honestly wasting more time trying to find out things then it is to just watch the first episode to see if you like it or not. If you looked at all the subbers already and stuff why not just pick the best and just watch it. I respect you wanting to not waste your time on bad animes or not wanting to watch censored or not censored, but you throw it overboard to me now. Why not search up censorship and the name of the anime? If you can't find it then there isn't.

Reason why people don't bother subbing the series version instead of the OAV is plain and simple its a retell. Surprised out of all that you have been searching you didn't find that out. All the series is just a retell and a few more scenes and has a little more of a storyline to it.

This series has NOTHING to censor....

You honestly answered all your questions yourself.... Just watch it or don't. You take so much time to try to find things out when most of the time it ain't even all that serious and important. You have burned more time asking and searching then just watching and enjoying. You could of figured all this out by just watching it already.

This anime is more slice of life than anything and is just pure comedy except its only takes place in school. Easy to compare with Minami-ke except Minami-ke is not just only at school.

I'm sorry I'm being a total asshole, but god EVERY anime you have thought about watching you have to go into the littlest detail. Just because its labeled ecchi doesn't mean its serious ecchi.... Its about middle school students for god sakes. I know you've seen the pictures of the characters at least by now with all this searching. I'm tired of seeing you question EVERYTHING about an anime when you could just enjoy the damn anime by watching it and finding out for yourself already. Like I said you burn twice as much time just for what? I understand doing it for quality and censorship, but you throw this overboard. If you can't find more groups then take what you can.... You are wasting so much time trying to find out instead of enjoying the good animes.

Seriously calm down with the search for perfection and just lay back and enjoy the anime. Its not like the censorship if there is any will stop you from enjoying it or watch it for that matter. If there is 1group then there is 1group take it or you don't its that easy. Also why not look at the date these animes came out and think about how long it takes for uncensored animes to come out. The OAV was back in 2006 and the series is 2008. It doesn't take THAT long to uncensor an anime. /end rant

The original OAV and the TV series are essentially parallels to each other to a certain point. If you only want to watch one Then watch the TV series since it all of the same basic episodes as the original OAV with slightly different drawing and more scenarios added in. The 2ND OAV is just a few short clips. As for the encoding of them, I had no issue playing them back at and I rather like almost all of Chihiro's encodes on most of the series they do.

But I must agree with the above poster. You should watch it and give a chance and if you like, you like it. If not, then not.

I will say this anime was hilarious for the most part and I fully enjoyed it wishing there was more at the end.

The reason why is simple. Southrop and I are working on fixing these episodes and encoding them to DVD.

Thats just the short list. It doesn't include the partial d.loads i have from 5 years back that i never checked out, or the DVD's i saw a long time ago on fansub then bought on DVD but never watched

if i d.loaded the first few epps for each and every show ive been piling up to watch, i would never actually get to watch anything =P I look up info on ADB and google when i d.load stuff but sometimes i like to verify whats what before i actually get to d.loading. You gotta realize i dont d.load and watch this stuff immediately. Theres a backlog i gotta go through, so i get the info i can, double check here if needed, then snag what looks decent or curious.

i mean thats what this sub forum is for isn't it? Discussion/questions about anime

As far as censorship that i usually ask about; what is/isn't is sometimes hard to find out. I do a search on sak complex and google but if it doesn't turn anything up, then whats it hurt to double check here? I really hate censorship of any kind and it seems like a lot of shows are doing lame censorship of simple stuff like brief panty shots and the like, so its worth double checking

and yes its middle school, but it mentions sexual inuendo and has a mid grade ecchi tag. Just because its middleschool doesn't mean crap. Kodomo no Jikan is friggin elementry school and that looks WAY ecchi from the bits ive seen

I have not gone into the littlest detail and asked tons of question about every anime ive thought of watching, as you imply. If i had done that you would have seen a crap ton more posts as you can see from the list above. I have only bothered to ask about a few select shows that i had some lingering questions on before d.loading and throwing on the pile. Excuse me if that pisses you off

ANYWAY back to the show

I realized the tv show was an alternate telling, but i was wondering exactly what the difference is, hence my Tenchi example. Is it comparable to Tenchi OAV/Tenchi TV? Eseuldor makes it sound like they follow the plot the same then split off, but im wondering if the characters get all changed up too like Tenchi TV
Tnx for the info Eseuldor, i had read a lot of issues with the actual playback.

I had read that chihiro was working on DVD versions but that post was back in august so i had no idea if that was still going on. Any idea if it will be done in the next several months or so Kristen? I can just hold off on d.loading it till then if thats the case since im in no major rush

at least it sounds like i dont gotta worry about cut/uncut =P

ITS XINWIND..... I've corrected you about this 7times already......

If you watch first episode of something and see if you like it. You'd be already watching at least 90% of the list you have done. You are so busy building a list when it won't end..... Why not watch it all and catch up that way instead of constantly downloading..... I mean seriously anime is constantly going and from the looks of it you won't EVER get near catching up at the rate you're going...... You've asked about over 7different answers and yet to watch them all...... Why? Becuse you're too busy doubting and taking too much time thinking about things because of what people say or because of damn censorship that shouldn't stop you from enjoy the damn anime......

Quote
i mean thats what this sub forum is for isn't it? Discussion/questions about anime
Its to DISCUSS not ask endless pointless questions when you can look back at posts or what has been said if you can't find the answer than isn't it common sense that it shouldn't be worried about such as your censorship question about EVERY GOD DAMN ecchi tagged anime...... Seriously 90% of the information is out there and you shouldn't need to constantly ask here to double check when its obvious that if you can't find the info anywhere AT ALL then its the same for us......

It ain't hard to find out.... If you can't find the information or find out if it is or not then how exactly are we suppose to know? Also most of the time people have already said something about it in old posts...... You do it for EVERY anime...... I understand here and there, but god every single one? Why not look at how the anime is drawn, think if it looks like it suppose to be ecchi heavy or its just stupid here and there bs, and move on...... You can tell when its more ecchi heavy or has a good focus on panty shots.....

Also middle school has A LOT to do with it..... You might of came across that anime, but doesn't mean its always like that.... Most animes aren't...... Thats what happens when you come across ECCHI BASED ANIMES..... Look at god damn Kampfer...... That shit was ALL ecchi and that is what they focused on..... Did I say anything about the base of the anime? I said that they were middle school students and from the looks of pictures of the anime it wasn't like that......

This is the exact reason why I say WATCH THE FIRST EPISODE OF THE ANIME....... So you can get a picture of the anime instead of asking meaningless questions.....

You look at the littlest details of anime when you should JUST ENJOY THEM..... You have asked tons of questions..... Each anime you have asked about has asked over 10-15questions when most of it you can find out yourself..... Most of it are questions that could even spoil the anime for you...... Lingering questions? 10-15 isn't just lingering questions...... Also tons of posts? You've made at least 4different threads already about asking about animes and constantly ask something about it when most of it has been answered before in other threads or you don't even see that it has been answered right in your thread or are questions that shouldn't need to be asked and could be found....... Instead of "adding on to the pile" why not watch some of it and cut down the time you are wasted on asking questions...... I'm not pissed, but irritated and sick of these constant questions about anime when all the questions are always the same for EVERY ANIME when you can easily just watch the first episode and get a taste of it all to get an understanding of it all......

If you read my post fully you would of gotten this answer already.......
Its a retelling with just a few more scenes and is a bit more of a storyline to it..... It also has a different artist so if you watch the OAV first then the TV you'll notice that there is a difference between to the two in animation.....

Quick point -- the characters are 5th graders (hence the title Class 5-2), and are thus in elementary school. At least in the OVA, there is some ecchi, more than you might expect from an elementary school setting. Not nearly as much as Kodomo no Jikan, but enough to make you say "this is so wrong!" from time to time.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Just to shorten this up and wind this thread down,

Original OVA = TV Series with same characters, but slightly different character design. Most evident with hair color. Although I believe the character designs for the 2 supporting male characters got flip flopped as well.

TV series has more shorts than the OVA and thus is 12 episodes versus 4. There both relatively the same length in run time. I recommend watching both although if you wanted to choose between one or the other I would recommend the TV series since it has all of the same basic stories as the OVA plus more to make it 12 episodes with 4-5 shorts in each episode versus the 4 OAV's with 4-5 stories each.

The OVA also, in my opinion is drawn a bit more beautifully.

There is no real plot to this show in either OVA or TV series. There is a very very small amount of character development in the TV series but not much to mention. There merely a collection is short stories broken down into periods within a day in the life of Class 5-2. Each episode or collection of shorts, represents a day or so in the lives of the characters.

I agree with XinWind on one thing, this is definitely one show where thinking too much would greatly ruin the final enjoyment. You have to go into this one open minded and ready to laugh at the simpleness and naivety of grade school students and be able to remember similar days within your own past. Once you do that, the laughs will come flowing.

Also just one thing I would say... You should watch some of the stuff you have first. That's like 3 months of watching you have stored up already on that list lol. Or at least about that much time for me anyway. I can't afford to couch anime 24/7.

tnx for the info got it sorted out. The only thing im not sure on is if i should just wait for chihiro to redo the tv series or just snag it now. I got the original OVA and i'll watch that sometime next month to see if its any good.  Then if its amusing i gotta eitehr snag the crappy current chiro subs or wait for the remakes, which have no eta

@eseuldor I have watched quite a bit =P ive probably watched a couple dozen shows in the months since i got back into it that weren't included on that list

I think the stuff i havent watched is going to be more than 3 months though, lol. Unless i do absolutly nothing but sit around watching anime

Xin, just give up, it's just like Tatsus' spelling in Bakemonogatari on a certain character :D
