So who else dropped gantz?
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:44:07 AM »
Pretty much stopped watching at Episode 11. A few of the characters are just too infuriating and it seems like the producer wasnt sure what do do with em

I thought Kato was consistant; at least until 11.

(click to show/hide)

And dont get me started on Kei. At least the biker thugs are consistent

The premise is good but the characters fail.

The rest of what i saw was fine; its just all the character contradiction and mucking about that takes it from being interesting to being deleted off my hdd.

So; who else dropped this?

Can the question be extended to "Who should've dropped Gantz?" Because I feel like I should've done so around episode 21. Bad last arc, lame ending. Only worthwhile thing was hearing a Greg Ayres vs. Chris Ayres final showdown.

Supposedly the manga is better, though.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

I did drop it. Thinking back, it was a mistake. I should have done a grander gesture, like using the DVDs as clay pigeons at the local shooting range.

I'm glad I didn't drop it. The first 15 or so episodes were pretty bad, but the second half was amazing (in Gantz terms anyways). It was quite the bloodletting.

Me at episode 12 or 13. I didn't even know it was the first season. There is two seasons and I have both. But haven't really watched the second season. Maybe when I am utterly super bored then I'll watch it, just one of those days ...

The anime is terrible.

I mean, the manga still isn't stellar or anything, but the anime just sucks.

i dropped gantz at episode 5. I could sense it immediately the mood, characters, and setting failed terrifically.
First the main character was shit. we know your life sucks dont drill it into our faces. The characters were as indecisive as fuck, over 5 freaking episodes to shoot a fucking gun? Dude the idiot ball cant get any worse than this.

Secondly the characters felt like they had HEMORRHAGE DISORDER!!! Dude i can painfully see the 5 second pause between each sentence, hurry it up man whats wrong with you people? Cat cut your tounge!? the anime had that experiential lain / ghost hound atmosphere, as if im watching an 1985 chick flick.

I saved my self any remaining disappointment and dropped the buggar.

The random fuck scenes were funny other than that it was pretty retarded. Especially the ending and the whole ball thing.

i loved it.  everyone i recommended it to loved it.  you guys just aren't watching it the right way.  drink lots of booze and silly things like plot and character development won't be missed.  it's mindless fun with hot chicks and killing.  what's not to like?  i even bought the box sets after seeing the fansubs to show my support for this type of show.  hopefully more mindless fun will be pumped out by the anime industry in the future.

fuck yeah man! gantZ has the ultimate form of plot fuckery but the action, chicks, and the characters "some of the time" go realy hard.
plus the manga is 12X better.

Could a mod move these posts into this topic: http://forums.bakabt.me/index.php?topic=15813.0

And maybe also these posts: http://forums.bakabt.me/index.php?topic=16415.0

That being said, I just finished the series. I watched in two go's. #1= two eps, #2= the rest.

(click to show/hide)

I don't know if I'll pick the manga up, maybe when I'm up-to-date on Fairy Tail and Psyren (lol, totally different franchises than Gantz). I have downloaded it from BakaBT some time ago, and I have read Battle Royale so I think I would be able to take it. Plus, since people say the manga is better.

All I can say if, don't watch this show if you are of the faint-of-heart.

(Source= IMDB)
It's funny how lightly Japan sees on ratings, they allow 15-year olds to watch Gantz while Spain, New Zealand, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Columbia recommends that viewers be 18-year old before watching Gantz. Although thinking that all who is at that age wouldn't be able to handle it might not be correct. But it's better to have some retrained from watching it, than having some damaged.

Ah, i've had a few discussions about this anime travesty.  I watched through the whole thing over the course of a few weeks while it was "on demand".  After each episode I'd talk to the co-worker who kept gushing about it and he kept swearing it was going to get better... so i watched... and watched.  It never got better, it only got worse.  I would love to have the time spent watching that anime back.  Needless to say, my co-worker and I disagree on it, and on several other anime.

We're just looking for different things I guess.

I'm looking for stuff that's... you know... good.

HAHAHAHA, FAIL.

in my opinion gantZ pros make up more then enough for its cons. it seems real to me. most people in reality aren't very decisive and usually make poor decisions when having to cope with an unknown unknown situations. thats the reality of it all.
and the gore isn't any the lighter in reality. your can see stuff just as gory on the news and in life, what do people think war is?

being able to adjust and like the REALITY of it all is what makes gantZ nice even with some of its sloppier animation times (though it looked fine to me whole way through).

i like anime thats GOOD but i'd also say that i have a broader horizen when it come to different things, at least thats how it seems.

I do have to agree that most characters did react realistically when told they would be fighting aliens etc..

But that's the only pro i can see.

you have to admit as you followed the lead character (Kei) that his character developed quite well through out the story. Like many of the other characters did too. you could really get into the characters as you got to know them better.

good character development is few and far between these days.

and i meant to say "unknown unknown" it means to be unprepared for something completly. most people go into situations knowing what they will know and what the wont. An unknown unknown is something they didn't know they wouldn't know.

I have no issues with gore, Elfen Lied is one of my all time favourite anime.  It was more the "story" itself.  Yes, i can see characters being realistic and making conflicting decisions, that's part of the human condition, we constantly contradict ourselves, so that wasn't my issue.  It was the craptacular plot that just kept getting worse.  The "art" certainly didn't help keep me interested either.

Different strokes for different folks. If we were all the same, life would be boring.
