Regarding inf. ratio
« on: December 23, 2009, 10:41:00 AM »
I've had a look through the faq and well known problems but haven't come across any explanation of why the inf. ratio occurs.  Apparently the standard is roughly 1000x.  But...

I'm not that amazing a seeder.

I'm not particularly worried but merely curious as to why a couple of my seeds have gone inf.  Plus the colour of the ratio inf. has now turned red...it used to be green.

It happens when your upload divided by
your download for a specific torrent is
equal to or greater than 1000.

For example the Fruits Basket torrent
you have has 0MB download and 20MB
upload registered at the moment which
would be 20/0 ~= infinity. It would be
the same if it were 20MB/1kB = 20000
as that would be displayed as a ratio
of inf. and not as 20000.

I occasionally seed things here that I've download elsewhere.
The inf. ratio on the torrent won't effect you at all.

The inf. ratio on the torrent won't effect you at all.
It'll affect you just as much as any individual ratio does, which is to say, not at all.

It started being colored red in an update a bit ago.  Although this is a bit misleading, don't worry about it.

By that I meant it won't negatively affect you.

That's covered in the wiki, and yes. You can download from another site and seed it here to improve your ratio. It's detailed in the wiki.

Btw can the tracker not be changed so that in the event that there is 0kB dl the ratio is based on upload/torrent size?

It do state the upload/size ratio aswell, below the upload/download ratio.

Ratio=or>1000= Inf. was in fact a suggestion I proposed long ago. You can find justification for it in my user page. There are also posts in this forum referring to the same topic, try looking them up.

what about over seeding?

I've seeding something that was 699.23 MB to 2.20 GB seeded.

and yet, it has that Inf. 3.2x thing.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death (True2) [zx]  |Size:699 MB |Up:2.20 GB |Down:0 KB |Inf.3.2x|

wtf?

You downloaded 0KB (thanks to freeleech or other trackers), so your ratio is Inf(inite), which is mathematically correct.

'3.2x' means the amount you seeded is 3.2 times the size of the torrent.

What's this about overseeding?
